I have a vibration problem on my 08 Uly. It has always been there. I have taken many "old school" steps to quell the bad vibrations, and nothing has worked it all the way out. Just subtle little improvements, but the vies are still there. Here's what happens: Once the motor is completely up to temperature [ 7 -8 miles of riding ] there is a really sharp vibration that sets in around 2400 to 3000 rpm. If you ride little back roads in 2nd gear at 30 mph, life gets harsh. SHAKES LIKE AN OLD LAWNMOWER! My hands go to sleep and my ass gets really red. Drivability suffers for the rest of the ride. 3200 to 4000 rpm riding is fine until you go into the next corner. once she dips below 3000 rpm, we are pushing an old lawnmower again. Here's what I've done: handlebar weights and filled the handlebar's with caulk. shimmed the front isolator - it was resting on the frame. I can now shift to 5th at 60 mph instead of 75. Loosened up the primary chain [ I found that if it's adjusted by the book, shifting gets really hard and a real buzz sets in.] NOTE: Life and vibes aren't bad until she completely warms up! I'm taking her to the shop for a new isolator and hopefully a new 08 BETA PATCH. QUESTIONS: Have any of you experienced an issue like this on a 08? If so, what did you do to fix it? Is the 08 plug number the same as the 07 plug - [ new plugs were installed by the dealer when the bike fouled a front plug when new.] Thanks for your input. |

Conchop, the powerband on these bikes is different than the big twins. They really don't like to run under 3000 rpm. Revving is not a bad thing |

Might also be worth checking the condition of your front isolator. |

08's use new plug thats more foul resistant. I dont know if it is interchangeable with the older plugs or vice versa. |

That will probably fix your problems, and I see you already have that scheduled. there is a really sharp vibration that sets in around 2400 to 3000 rpm People told me this for a long time before I started believing it. Learn from my mistakes. Your engine is happiest around 4000 rpm. Try shifting in a manner that keeps it there, and enjoy the increased power and gas mileage. |

From what some of you are saying, I should keep her up on the pipe. That's just a bit of problem in my terrain. If you've ever seen those quaint little English farm roads on TV, you're close to what we have here. Just make them go left /right while going up and down at the same time. It is my opinion that a dual purpose style Uly should be able to handle this without any huge vibration issues. I'm tired of having my hands and backside going to a buzzed/numb sleep. 30 mph in 1st gear seems a bit busy on our little back roads. I've done a good bit of this high rpm riding as I have to. It seems to be the only way to keep the killer vibes down. From what I have learned from the factory people and the on - line community, the bulk of the 08's are smooth. Let me ask you this: On flat ground and your warmed up bike in neutral - on the kick stand - does your bike do a Michael jackson moonwalk backwards - when revs hit 2500 rpm? Mine scoots backward on the garage floor, with the kick stand leaving a nice steel on concrete skidmark. I hope to get this figured out. Thanks again for your input. |

My 08 uly also does the moon walk It makes michael jackson look white and nerdy! but under a load above 2500 rpm she smooths right out. I would say you have a problem for sure. Sounds to me exactly whats been described by other bad webbers which turned out to be the front engine isolator or motor mount. Their is a thread on the big bad and dirty board titled new engine isolator part numbers, then click to the archives. Fellow bad webber Entully describes the bad isolator symptoms to tee. That's too many vibes.... My 08 Uly shakes, but not that bad. Try forcing a TPS reset - search on technique. Change spark plugs. Front engine mount - they can go within 800miles, so don't think it is not possible with a new bike. Too be honest - that's all I can come up with. If those three things don't work - take it back as you have a serious problem... |

I have made it better but it is still there. After the bike is hot, trolling around at low speed, brings out the old lawnmower in her. My last stunt was to readjust the primary chain. I thought I had her fixed after a nice and smooth highway jaunt. But the next day was a 30mph stretch down a little old hillbilly backroad. Not as bad but still there. I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the AFV values in the computer. I think it goes very EPA lean. I have a regular series of old school tricks to solve vibrations. They have all helped in a cumulative way, BUT the core cause is still at large. I will be screwing in a new set if irridiums ASAP. |

Conchop, I noted the same vibration on my '06 Uly. It's the nature of the beast, so to speak. 25/30 mph in 2nd gear; she's going to vibrate. |

Oh that sucks! I think I'll put the xb9 primary in it so I can get the revs up easier. Tight operational spaces here. |

Well maybe I have a one off which I doubt but between 2400 and 3000 the power pulses of the Uly are not anything that will cause numbness in your hands. Come on people he obviously has a real problem that things like spark plugs are not going to fix. We need more info about mileage, other mods, tires, gearing changes, other work that may have been done that he knows about. There is a lot of factors but Ulys don't have horrible bad vibration at 2400 to 3000 RPM. No they don't something is amise. |

Lemme chime in here: My 2008 is smooth all over the place compared to my X1. It idles smoother, it runs with less vibes all the way up to redline. I would suggest looking at the front isolator. Those things can fail in sneaky ways. Sometimes, you can't see the delamination until you removed it from the bike. In rare instances, they can even fail inside with no outside indication! |

This is killing me! Everyone else has smooth Uly's and mine is the old lawnmower. I have replaced the front isolator and had the "y" download. Everything I've done has helped but once she gets hot, the vibes sneak in at 2400 to 3000 rpm. I am going to change the plugs. That is the last denominator as they were replaced by the shop at about 200 miles. I think there is a different plug number and there is a possibility that I have the old number. If that doesn't do it, I'm stuck! |

Conchop, My 08' Uly buzzes too at certain areas. I took a 400 mile trip this weekend, lots of highway and back roads and noticed at certain RPM ranges she would buzz like crazy (hand numbing). I am going to try some bar end weights that still allow me to keep the hand guards in place. I have 3000+ miles on the bike and everything else seems fine. Nothing out of the ordinary that would be causing this buzz. I am leaning towards nature of the beast. I like to compare my Uly to the sport bikes I have had in the past. When I get off the Uly I feel like I have been on a V-twin, when I got off of those bikes it felt like I had been on a weedeater! |

LOL - good one! I talked with Al at American Sport Bike. I think he nailed it. There is a transition from the program to the O2 sensor at about the rpm range in question. When she goes lean, she goes way lean. Nonetheless, I'm hoping the irridium plugs I ordered from him will be another incremental improvement. |
