Taking the Firebolt in tomorrow so they can jot down the particulars and order me a kit. ...they wouldn't hook up the Uly and tell me what software I had, though they did spend an inordinate amount of time on the phone and at least admitted that it EXISTED. |

I'll have to talk to one of the San Diego HD/Buell shops since I'm heading that way tomorrow. In the end Steve and I may have something worked out regardless, but I'm going to give it a shot and see if it solves the issue. Thank you Buell for taking action on this. It is appreciated! |

I guess the 2008 12R will not be on the recall. When I pull it up, I just get service data. Darin |

Part of Service Bulletin B-076 (the odd numbered pages courtesy of Bartels' HD/B) is posted here. At least it has part numbers and a list of affected bikes. |

I'm waiting on the parts now. I requested taking a look at them when I bring the bike back to actually have the service done, just to get a peek at what's different. Well, crap. The posted info states that kits will be shipped starting today, and no additional orders will be processed until after the first wave...and then something about needing to submit 75% of the alotted yadda yadda...my brain hurts - I just hope it doesn't delay me getting the parts since this is not the dealership I bought the bike from (that dealership no longer wants anything to do with Buells). |

This just in...
2 years seems like a long time, but we have customers that didn't come in for their cam bearing recall on early Twin Cam motors, and they're pretty much screwed. Better get while the getting's good! Chris |

So, I'm pretty new to this. Is Buell likely to contact me somehow? Does the local dealer contact me or do I contact them? |

The bulletin says they will contact you. If it were me though, I'd go ahead and contact the dealership until I was certain they put me on their list. service bulletin B-076 |

Ok, so I finally decided to call HD about this. I'm not the original owner of the bike, and I didn't bother to fill out that card in the owners manual and send it to Buell because I failed to see the point. Well it did have a purpose. They told me to just bring in a proof of purchase or have the previous owner call and he can change all the info over to me. I'm just saying this for those who haven't called yet and aren't the original owner of their motorbike. Now I'm just waiting for the callback. |

>>>>I'm not the original owner of the bike You should have ZERO problems. The fix will accrue to the bike VIN, not necessarily the owner. Any problems, your Authorized Buell Dealer can resolve them quickly. Also, it you go to your dealer 12 hours after the campaign was announced and they don't know about it simply give them the number, give them the info and ask them to look into it. It's simple and they can get the info pronto. Few dealers have the time we do to monitor the internet by the hour and get updates sent to their Blackberrys. |

Do you have to let the Harley shop do the work or can you get the parts and put them in yourself? |

The shop will have to do it I'm pretty sure. Shred had a mirror replaced under warranty, they would not give it to him to replace himself, even though he was going to do it there on the spot. |

I was told by my dealership that they can't replace parts on my bike until they replace those on all of the bikes that have been sold through them. I bought my bike from a guy on here from Michigan (I am in Iowa), so I am hoping I don't have to wait 6 months before they will replace them for me. I may have to apply a little pressure if it starts to take too long. |

JandJ: Have a nice conversation with your dealer and inform them the the SB is based on the VIN number and not where they were purchased or, who purchased the motorcycle. If they still stand on that line of "our customers 1st", give Buell customer service a polite call and explain your situation and who you talked with at the dealer. (maybe even play the Buell customer service card at the end of the nice conversation with the dealer and, see if that will change their tune) . Above all be polite, it will get you a lot further. I doubt if you will have any problems after that conversation. |

I haven't checked my VIN yet but if you have an '06 that has a build date later than 09/08/05, does that mean the your headlights and reflective material are just fine? In other words, did they make a change to the headlights in those production models that eliminates this problem out the door? |

IIRC the part numbers for the 03 to present head light assemblies are the same. It may just be that the mid 06 and newer bikes haven't seen a sufficient number of failures to make a service bulletin and repair an necessity. This could always change. |

I contacted the Kearney Mesa branch of San Diego H-D and was told: "keep calling us back each week and we'll let you know when we have the parts" Uh-huh, I don't think so. So I called the downtown branch and they took down my VIN, are submitting the claim, and will call me when the first wave of parts come in. Two branches of the same dealership, one has good customer service, the other, well lets just say I will never darken their door. |

So,on the Harley-Davidson website under the service banner,my X1 is listed with a number of "Recall notices". My '05 12r has one listing called "Product Notice". THe "Recall Notice" is prefaced with a yellow triangle with an exclamation within. The "Product Notice" not. What is the difference between these two? Will BMC take responsibility for my bad lighting or not? |
