I called the Mayor (Mayor's court) and asked for an appointment to see him tommorrow before work. So... I'm gonna see if I can talk to him on the side without possibly embarassing the officer in front of our peers. |

AS A POLICE OFFICER: Do a FORMAL complaint and go as HIGH up the chain of command as you can go. When in court, have the bike there. Pictures and documentation (literature) from Buell to show HOW the motorcycle is designed and WHERE the exhaust IS located as he did NOT pay attention. BOGUS tickets like this CAN get your certification called out. It seems that he is TARGETING you. You may have a case IF you could prove it. If he was a TRUE servant to the people... he would have LISTENED to you and then would have let you go. Matt. (LEO SOUTH GA.) |

Under full throttle operation, the exhaust valve will open up and the bike DOES get louder. However, the Federal EPA requirement for noise does NOT include full throttle application. |

So you just might end up with the faulty exhaust ticket dropped and getting a display of speed ticket instead. Proceed with caution. |

If it gets to a 'display of speed' I'm getting an attorney. I accelerated normally for a motorcycle. Not aggressively and within the posted speed limits. This was not full throttle. This was getting up to 55mph from 35mph. |

Finding an alternate route may be your best option. Even if you do get the tickets dismissed, if he keeps pulling you over, it is going to take up a lot of your time. Sometimes being right is not worth the hassle. |

My visit with the Mayor (and Chief of Police) went extremely well. I rode in on the bike without the lower chin fairing so it was easily seen. I explained that I wanted to do this in private rather than possibly embarrass the Officer (saving myself grief in the long run). I reviewed the Trilogy of Tech with them and showed them pictures on the internet of various bikes showing that it was the factory exhaust. They wanted to look at the bike, so I showed them the stamping on the can and they seemed to be okay with it after comparing it with the picture the Officer took. The Chief noted that it’s not as loud as a stock Harley and they took care of the ticket and gave me the info in writing. They also apologized for the Officer’s seeming harassment and said that vehicle tend to be louder downtown with the echoes from buildings. They assured me that they do not target motorcyclists as a policy and will review the policy with the Officer. I still have court for the speeding ticket, but hopefully they will take the exhaust concern into consideration. It seemed pretty unusual to me, but they were polite and professional, so I went with it. |

That gives the cop, who may have had a moment of being an &##^&*# (and I've had plenty of my own moments that fall in that category) a chance to form a new opinion about motorcyclists as well. Classy move. Granted, he was a jerk, but he gets up every morning knowing he may take a bullet protecting somebody we love. That gets him a few free passes. |

I think I would have mentioned that, "the other ticket going away could go a long way in helping me get over this trauma" |

My guess is that it was the most fun that has been had by that judge in a long time. Anytime I even WAVE at a coworker as I leave my office building, they come over and just STARE at my Uly..."What IS that?!" Guys are guys...unless the cop or judge are women. And in that case, I'll just keep my mouth shut. |
