Idling thru Chi-town now. Coming up on the 90/94 split.......Did pretty well on 41 up to the Navy Pier. Thinking about staying on 94/41 to avoid any excess road construction. |

We're here and unloaded. Only 3 armbands for us including the track day? Any other RSs showing up? CCryder and the 1125ST are stuck in traffic in Chi-town but should be here before dark. |

Sorry boys and girls about mother nature and the drag strip. And about getting us lost on the way there... |

Well.. It was an eventful trip so far.. Got here the night prior (July 1st) around 10pm. We unloaded and after getting into the room and what not, we were ready for bed. Got up still on East Coast time and so we were running a little late.. hehehehe.. Ok, it wasn't that bad. Got to breakfast and had a little chat with a member of the wait staff, they didn't know they were supposed to be serving breakfast as late as we had been told. Not a problem, they will adjust for us. We sat around for a little while, chatted with a few folks and decided to go see Hals' Buell. Then ran into Nancy (from James Gang Moto ST fame) and decided, since she was gonna run, we would go to the drags and check it out. I have my camera in hand and decided I'd see if I could get a few decent shots of her. Found Hals. That tiny sign kind of goofed us, oops... OK, make it there the second time passed and all was good. Met 'Bud' a good guy that we all have to thank for putting together the 'Hals' Day at the Drag Strip'. Well, the weather was kind of cruel to us, with some storms rolling through the area up here giving us some cool and wet weather. Or at least so we thought. The group sat at Hals for a few lined up pretty deep, I think there were a bit more bikes lining up for the trip then people had at first thought there would be. Steve Mackay (I believe that's who got drafted) at the last minute was tapped to lead the group and after a few rain drops fell on us, away we went. It was kind of amusing as we actually made a circle at one point since we'd seemed to miss a turn that went to the track. heheheh.. Just goofing on the fact that even with GPS units mounted on bikes, folks were still missing turns and getting 'lost' out here. I didn't mind though since it was a pretty nice ride with some pretty country side to look at as we ran the back roads to the drag strip. Side note, in my area, we've complained about the state of our roads.. Well, I don't think we can do that so much any more. A lot of the roads that we road on and have been on since we got into the area have really needed some serious attention and for some reasons I kept thinking to myself, hell every ride out this way may be an adventure ride simply because of the way your tires and suspension could be taking a beating just going from town to town. Well, back to my tale... We got to the track and as we parked our bikes it started to look a bit darker and once again, it seemed as thought the rain was coming our way. Again. So it rained a bit more and everyone was still working on the idea that they'd dry it and we'd see a few runs made. Food came out for us as the sky opened up and it dumped on us. Damn! After the deluge, it was over, there would be no runs made tonight. Robin and I paired up with Don and Pam from NY. And away we ran, this time on the slab. We seemed to be skirting the storm as the clouds seemed to move around us, we were playing cat and mouse with another thunderstorm. As we raced back to the host hotel we managed to only catch what seemed to be the edges of the storm(s) as we moved amongst the unfamiliar traffic and the roads.. Uh, on another note. What's with the names of some of these roads? Ok, I can get names. I can get the numbers.. But letters? And for those of you not here, we're not talking about something like 'Ave. 'A'' .. No, think 'K' - and of course, 'Y' and 'KR' and no, they don't (as far as I can tell) follow a pattern (like the mile roads in Detroit) so it seems pretty easy to get lost without some really good directions. But, at least, we're here to have fun and as long as we are, I think getting lost would just be part of it. Tomorrow is coming soon, so I'll end this and we'll see what it's like then.. The rain is supposed to be gone for the rest of the week and we're looking forward to even more fun. I'm sure those of us here will let those of you not here know how it goes.. Later. |

Just found out that there's free net access in the lobby. JUST paid freaking $10 for 24 hours. Had regrets about not renting the Uly til tomorrow AM - but after hearing the stories from the brave souls ATTEMPTING to watch the drags, I think my cowardice/wimpiness paid off. This crowd is AMAZING. Cooler group of folks is just not to be found. GOnna be a fun few days here, Nitey nite all. |

It appears last year was a fluke...I had no issues with my bike for the entire event. On the way back from the drag strip my bike spit out the front spark plug. Fortunately Toni had a new plug in the van and with No_Rice's help we were able to get the plug threaded in well enough for me to get back to the house. My bike HATES being short shifted and lugged but that was the order of the day. Hopefully in the morning when the bike is cooled down we'll be able to tighten it down properly....but I see heli-coil or time-sert in my future no matter the morning's outcome. Once again it was badwebbers to the rescue of one of our own. Thanks guys! Also: I'll be looking for you tomorrow Court....You have been warned! I want a book |

Sounds like I'm missing a great time. And being I live about an hour away from the factory makes it even more painful! But with work being slow a few months ago. it just wasn't in the cards I guess. I hope to met a lot of you at Road America. Look for the white 9R #36 and PLEASE stop and say hello. Also, post lots of pics! |

Anybody know anything about the shuttle to the Boiler Room tonight? I realize it's late asking, but man, it would be nice to have a few. I won't if I'm riding though... |

Still no word on a shuttle to Dana's... Already on my second beer, so riding's out of the picture. In the Hotel restaurant getting a sandwich, hopefully somebody'll be driving and I can catch a ride. Today was a blast, got Court & Dave's book, got it signed by them AND Erik. Better yet, I got Erik to sign my inner airbox " Happy Birthday Zack Erik Buell" Uh-oh my sandwich is here. Later Z |

Ok, here are some pictures from Wed. I was a 'good' boy and didn't take my camera with me to the factory since they said they would not be allowed inside. Interestingly enough.. While I was inside for the tour, there were at least two people taking pictures.. Oh well.. From the Drag strip - \image {01}

Nice shots. Looks like a telephoto with a fairly wide aperture. I love the look that gives, but can't afford that kind of glass |

Well I made it to the track day. Finally got to meet Gentleman Jon in person! Also met Paul from Gainesville and Josh and a few others Great seeing Brian,Steve,Toni It was very painful to be at a track and not be riding it! It just wasn't in the cards or budget this year. Had about a 400 mile ride, round trip. The XB ran flawlessly. This is only the 3rd ride I've had this year so I enjoyed getting out in the wind. |

It was really good seeing you again Dave! It was just too bad you couldn't have stretched your visit out a little longer, and gotten to see more people. I was trying my best at RA today letting people know that you said "HI!" (or whatever comment seemed appropriate for the individual ) |

Sunday morning sitting out with the bikes, having a smoke and some coffee. Bummer, this most excellent adventure is almost over. The Host Hotel has been awesome, taking our shenanigans in stride. The Company has been awesome. This Homecoming "Cherry Boy" was warmly welcomed, meeting several of the Top Brass, especially the Master himself. Biggest and best tho, I have NEVER met a more impressive bunch of people in my life! Time for breakfast, Frank Skinner and Lynn have already left for Colorado, carrying young Sean's Blast home in their truck. I'm going back up to RA after I check out of the Hotel. Loretta will pass 10k miles on the way up and I'll head home from there. It will be good to get home, I'm sure my lawn needs to be mowed. More from the road later. Z |
