I did a bunch of searches both board and google and didn't find anyone posting the procedure here or anywhere else. I've found all the bolts, and they're easy enough to get to, except, the front two have nuts that spin happily if you just try to unscrew the bolt. The far side it looks like I can get with a socket, u-joint, and long enough extension OK, but the near one looks like you might need a special tool, or to remove the oil cooler. Then there's getting them back in place after the re-install. That looks like it's going to be very tricky. Who's done it and how did you go about it? |

Only the front left nut should spin, the right one should be a captured nut just like the other 2 in the rear. They easiest way to get the front right off is with a long 6mm ball allen if you have one. For the left side, I ground down a 13mm wrench so that it is narrow enough to fit between the muffler and the oil cooler bracket. You can also try a pair of 90 degree needle nose, but it might not have enough grip. Also a few hints. Loosen the 2 fasteners for the right rider footpeg. They don't need to come out, just be loose. When you put the muffler back on, be careful not to damage the gaskets. It helps if you loosen the front header so you can wiggle it. That will allow the muffler to slide on much easier. Those captured nut can slide back and forth so look and see that they are in the correct position or you be tightening your fastener for days. Torque for the muffler fasteners is 19ft lbs, footpeg bracket is 24ft lbs and the muffler clamps in 97in lbs or about 8ft lbs, and the header flange nuts to 15ft lbs. |

Snow- I took a 13 or 14? mm box-end and bent it 90˚. That way I can come in from the left side and it locks against the motor mount when I turn the bolt. I think I heated and bent 3 wrenches to get the right one. Z |

Ya, I did the bend thing to, but it snapped because I didn't heat it, so I welded it back together. Worked like a charm. It's 13mm like the guy said. I used the box end so it would capture the nut. Got it off and back on just fine thanks to the instructions above. My powdercoat was damaged and I was afraid of the muffler rusting out on me so for now I painted it with some old Gun-Kote metal finish I had laying around to hold me over until I can get it coated "for real" or re-do it myself with some actual exhaust coating. Fortunately it's discoloring the same color as the headers, so it actually doesn't look too bad. It's slowly working it's way back and I've got my fingers crossed that i'll get a nice looking fade effect. |

I've already used up a can of 1200˚F Bar-B-Que paint on mine. It rusts fast, but I'm just as fast with a rattle-can. It's just as pretty as the day she arrived.... Z |

I didn't do a very good job of preparing so it's starting to come off around the collector. I like how it looks though. I might try blasting it, reinforcing and then cleaning up the welds, then send it off with the headers for a ceramic coat. |
