Are these things all going out on everybody at once? Mine is shot too, dropping it off tonight for a warranty fix and 10k mile service! I can't wait to ride the bike in a renewed condition!

The evil isolator fairy can cover some ground - I got an isolator in from Appleton and replaced it on the week-end. As previously described I've had vibrations sneak up on me for some time now (just turned 60,000km ~36,000miles) so having watched this thread for a while I thought it worth a try.
Like Jim, I had a bear of a time getting the main mounting bolt out. It was corroded into the frame insert as well as the centre part of the isolator. After I got a long enough lever the frame insert started coming out with the bolt corroded in place. The only way I could proceed was to undo the insert far enough to get a spanner on it to hold it firmly.

After cleaning up the insert and loctiting it back in I fitted the new isolator with plenty of anti-seize on the main bolt.

The old Uly is back with no evil harsh vibrations in the handlebars - very rewarding.

Must make a point of changing that out again after the next 50,000km.

I don't see the part number in the whole thread? Somebody have it handy? It's best to have the part # when I start dialing.

TIA

The stock part for '06 models was L0501.02A8C and is no longer available from HD. They "supersede" the old number to the new number. The new number is L1501.02A8 and is listed as stock on '07 models.

Big brown showed up today with mine from Appleton. It went in with little drama, and what a difference! It's like a whole new bike. The difference at 3,000 RPM and below is amazing.

Mine was absolute toast at 11,000 miles. The bond between the center sleeve and the rubber had been broken allowing the motor to drop all the way down onto the center bolt head. It probably actually needed
replacing at around 7-8,000 miles, but it's such a gradual deterioration it's hard to make a definite good/bad determination. The sad part about it is that I am out of warranty about a month now. I wish I had seen this thread two months ago so it could have been warranted.

Here's a shot of the new and the old isolators side by side.

Looks like you can add me to the ranks of failed isolators:

isolator

I noticed the bike seemed to be riding and handling a little quirky in the twisties this week and it was getting buzzy vibration on the way home. Time for a trip to the service department...

Me too.. I just replaced mine last Sunday. It looked just like Hughs pic above. Once I got it off there were actually 2 tears on the topside .. only one had worked its way all the way to the bottom.

Oh yea it should be noted, its possible mine is still fine, my bike was having issues with the Micron header, and that could of possibly been causing my vibration issues.

Froggy, thanks for the post with the part number...I must have read right over it. I've got a shiny new isolator sitting here to go on tonight.

I got the new clutch cable bracket thing too.

Thanks to all for posting part numbers and stuff..it really helps us lurkers.

Called my dealer this morning and scheduled an appointment for next Saturday. They won't have the mount in stock so likely I'll be parking the Uly for ~2 weeks+. That's the aggravating thing about minor warranty items like this- I could order it myself, have the mount in 4 or 5 days, and install it in ~30 minutes for a total cost of <$100 and be back on the road by next Friday. This is only the 2nd warranty item I've had in ~12500 miles, so I guess I'll wait on this one. My S3 is ready to ride with a new battery (see my "charging issues" thread) and I'm sure is feeling very neglected...

BTW- my Uly was feeling VERY weird with the torn mount. It had this very subtle and annoying "judder"- it felt like the engine was randomly missing or either I was randomly riding over invisible ripples in the pavement. It was subtle enough that you could almost ignore it- but it drove me nuts. On-off throttle transitions in the twisties seemed weird too- I'm guessing the torn mount is letting the engine/tranny rock forward and aft much more than usual. The main thing is the sub-3000 RPM vibrations never go away. It'll be nice to have my old Uly back.
