I got caught 65 miles from home in a driving rain storm and can say the bike never missed a beat. I even had to stop and buy a new rain suit. It was so bad that it was blowing up into my helmet and getting both the inside of the visor wet and my glasses as well to the point I had to stop and try and dry them just be able to see. About 15 miles from home there was a tree down across the road and people HAD to stop about six of us drug the tree off the road rather than make a 20 mile loop to get on the interstate. After starting back out the wind got real nasty, to the point I had to slow down to 30 just to have ANY control. North/spouth road and the wind was from the west I'd say gusting to 50+ I was all over the place and nowhere to stop and hide! What’s normally less than an hour trip turned into a two hours nightmare. All in all NOT a fun ride I HATE riding in the rain, takes longer to stop, can’t turn worth a flip and can’t see very well. And the cagers are even worse drivers when it’s wet! BUT the Buell handled it like a champ! Reading about all the electrical problems I was a bit worried! Funny thing was there were a group of H-D rides rolling along like nothing was going on! One guy was on a Soft Tail with nothing but jeans and a t-shirt on! Man he must have been cold and beat half to death by all the crap blowing around. But even they pulled over at the first store and we ALL took cover inside waiting for the storm to blow over. | ||

Sounds like the perfect time to find a motel, or at least a Denny's for a while. Glad you made it safe. | ||

Bragging rights??? What bragging rights?  That I lack the common sense to get out of the rain?  Well I'd rather have been warm and dry BUT this part of Indiana is kind of lacking in Dennys to hide in! Rain is one thing BUT a full blown storm is another. | ||

I've ridden in some insane deluges! Sometimes I've gotten wet so fast, there wasn't any reason to stop... it would have just prolonged the misery. Last week I walked into a convenience store soaking wet with my helmet in my hands and the lady at the counter said, "You look like a real motorcyclist, not like those guys". She was pointing at some 1%er wanna be's huddled under the eaves at the gas pumps. That made me feel pretty good... | ||

LOL - I used to do the wet stuff all the time - the 260 miles in inches of heavy rain From San Louis Obispo to SF was the last time for me to do the storm riding bit - I could barely see half the time, and my wife said I was doing fine , however, five times other cars tried to merge into my lane with me there - heck - I didn't even notice - just trying to keep it on the road - lol  EZ | ||

the first time i did a road trip on the m2, did about 450 out of 600 miles in the rain. oddly enough, i think most cagers did their best to stay away from me. when i got back, the one mechanic at the shop made mention of me passing him like a bat outta hell going down the interstate. of course he was towing a trailer. hadn't done a ride like that since i was in the navy. and that was an all day rain. | ||

Bragging rights means that you get stuck in rain and snow and tornado and such because riding a motorcycle is a way of life and not just a lifestyle. | ||

I don't get the rain-bragging thing I don't know that it's something to brag about, but it's still something one can be a little proud of - riding a bike where no one should, and most woudln't ride one. I know it makes me feel just a little tougher when i think about Hammer's trailer breaking 250 miles from my house. The ride home was pouring rain the whole way, and the thermometer didn't get above 31 degrees or so the entire time. My waterproof gloves were soaked straight through, but everything else was dry. I would have just ridden straight through with far fewer stops, but my hands and feet were so cold that I needed to regain the feeling before I set out again. | ||

Brinnutz, Good to see some other Hoosierbillys posting here and what in the world were you doing in Wabatucky? I bought my first Buell and McDaniels in South Bend before they dropped the line. If you ever get towards the mecca of Hartford City ping me. Lots of cool stuff to see within a twenty mile radius believe it or not. Even if it rains we'll ride... and add to the bragging rights. Sorry- Until you've commuted in NY snow, 6 days a week, to a ski resort from Nov.-March, on your scoot,snow, ice, slush, bad drivers, I don't wanna hear 'bout no rain. rain is de rigeur for many of us, even looooong trips of it. | ||

I got my Express Glide Ultra Custom Deluxe caught in a shower when the dang custodian at the office forgot about daylight savings time and didn't adjust the timer on the sprinklers. Had to take it to the chromatorium to get it polished and waxed and you KNOW how bad the lattes are at the chromatorium.... (Message edited by Rainman on June 23, 2008) | ||

Sorry- Until you've commuted in NY snow, 6 days a week, to a ski resort from Nov.-March, on your scoot,snow, ice, slush, bad drivers, I don't wanna hear 'bout no rain. You live in orange county. What snow can you possibly get? Come up here and try that, lol. You'd park your bike in the lot for a day of work and come back not to find it. | ||
