My '08 had been getting about 35-37 mpg. I've had the low fuel light come on as soon as 117 miles. Did some farkling a couple of weeks ago. Since then, I've been averaging 43.5 mpg. The changes I made that would/could affect this were the addition of a K&N air filter and a Drummer muffler. Not sure if it's one or the other...or a combination of both but I've DEFINITELY seen a mileage increase. The light came on today at 153. That's the farthest I've ever gotten. I've REALLY got to tune out that Drummer decel popping though. It's pretty bad. Tipsy (Message edited by tipsymcstagger on June 07, 2008) |

sounds good...I like the drummer, but just wish there was a way to 'let the Uly breathe' without it being so loud. |

Has anyone ever put the stock muffler on a flow bench and compared it to a Drummer or other aftermarket muffler ? The stocker is basically a straight through pipe with a couple of bends in it, no restricter plates or anything. Glad to hear your getting better mileage Tipsy. |

Most likely it's just the fact you've put some more miles on it and it's starting to get broken in more. It takes a few K to get them really loosened up. |

I'm sure over time that will be true...but this was not over time. This was literally noticeable from one tank to the next...pre and post filter and Drummer. Tipsy |

Perhaps if the old filter is still available, you could run a tankful with it on and see if the cause of the good news could be isolated. Or I could just buy a K&N filter and see if it makes any difference. But that would require me to actually do something... |

""I've REALLY got to tune out that Drummer decel popping though. It's pretty bad"". Hey Tipsy, Try changing all of the cells in the bottom two horizontal rows ONLY - those cells that are less than 39 get changed to 39 across (left-to-right) horizontally - again, in the bottom two rows only. See if that helps. John H. . |

Desmo 900 Take a look at the link on the homepage of American Sport Bike. I think you might be surprised at how good the standard can is! http://www.americansportbike.com/ |

Sorry Arkaybee...the paper filter is somewhere in a landfill by now. Try changing all of the cells in the bottom two horizontal rows ONLY - those cells that are less than 39 get changed to 39 across (left-to-right) horizontally - again, in the bottom two rows only. Thanks JohnBoy! This is great information. Now I just have to decide if I want to experiment with ECMSpy with so few days (in my schedule) remaining before Homecoming. Afraid I'll turn my ECM into a brick! Tipsy |
