My Check Engine Light is coming on as soon as the bike starts. It goes out in the normal 4 seconds after before you start the bike but then it comes on when started. It all started yesterday, I totally killed the battery so that it would not do anything, no lights, nothing was going on. Hooked up a charger and let it do it's thing and now the bike starts just fine but now I get the Check engine. All the manual says is to take it to the dealer. Is there anything to try before doing that. |

Sounds like a battery weakness issue to me. Does it also reset the trip odometer? |

The trips were zeroed because I did brain the battery all the way down. But I have the check engine coming on with a fully charged battery. I'm afraid to ride it much since the manual is so vague about what is wrong. I think this is just a sensor reading but I'm not sure. Just kind of sucks having this issue right off the bat. |

The Check Engine Light might have a fault code related to the battery going dead or it may point to something else. To see what the fault code is, jumper pins 1 and 2 on the data connector, turn the key on and count the pulses. I'm sure there is a list of fault codes here on the BadWeB that you can check. Let us know what you find. The resources on this forum are boundless. |

Is it a 2008? If so, I think you're the 3rd person to report the Check Engine light. I think the other 2 people had to get their O2 sensor replaced. These are on brand new bikes too. Just delivered for the one guy. |

"Jumper Pins 1 and 2 on the data connector" were would one find this, what do you mean by count the pulses. It seems like all I can find in the manuals is buy the electronic manual. |

The data connector is a grey plug under the seat somewhere with a rubber plug covering up four pins. If you short pins 1+2 and then turn on the ignition(don't start it), the engine light will blink out a two digit code. It will flash fast at first to let you know it's talking, then the slow flashes are the ones you count. I think the codes are pretty much the same for all the models so here is the old listing: http://bcrider.com/DDFI.html Of course, this won't help you if it's the exhaust valve servo but you should get the idea. Worst case, you could write down the number, call the dealer and ask them to look it up for you. |

When my '07 Uly did this, it was related to the exhaust sensor. They made a quick readjustment at the dealership and all has been well since then. Wayne |

Forgive me for being stupid, but your thread topic is YELLOW engine light .... That's the low fuel light,an engine light is RED. Are you trying to fix something that is not broke? |

+1 on the yellow light. Put some gas in it on the way to the dealer! |

On my '08 it is yellow, only the oil pressure light is red. |

I maybe dumb, but I'm not that dumb, (please don't try to confirm that with people that know me) :-0 they also have pretty icons that help, the YELLOW light has the v-twin, the fuel is now orange (has pump on it) Red Oil pressure has oil thingy. I know it is in the bio but I should stated it is an 08. I'm going to take it to the dealer in a few, Figure even if I can figure out what is wrong I would be able to make the right adjustment anyway. They said it won't hurt to ride it and they will look at it while I'm there. |

Just got back from the dealer, they said the Actuator (sp?) is bad and has to be replaced, they have to order the part but said it is fine to ride, just doesn't have the top end power it should. Probably let them do the 1k service while it is there, they just charge $200 for that. Bumpus in Murfreesboro seems like a great dealer. They looked at the bike while I waited and said if I could give them a couple of hours I can wait on the repair/service when the part comes in. Oh, and BTW, my Orange fuel light came on on the way to the dealer so I did have to stop to get gas. (just anyone else curse every time they pump gas?) |

Hey Sachmo, I have an '08 XT. I had two actuators fail on my bike. It's part of the interactive exhaust. Mine went out the 1st time on the bike's maiden voyage to the mountains. My dealer also said OK to riding it and I ended up putting quite a few miles on before replacing it with no problems. I'm on actuator #2 and all is good. Bob |

That's the low fuel light,an engine light is RED. The CEL on the '08's (at least every '08 I've seen - including mine) is yellow. Funny thing though - '08 Owners Manual also refers to it being red. (At least that's not as serious a type as the original 1125 Owners Manual given the incorrect instructions for checking the oil level. Doh!!!!) |

Sorry about that! I guess I'm no longer knowledgeable enough about new Buells to poke someone in the eye over what looked to be a simple dum-dum mistake. New light must be separating emissions issues from engine run issues. |

I doubt it is the battery as I just did the same thing. Drained my battery to nada. I put it on the trickle charger and it's been charging for four days very slow and I fired it up today with no errors, although it seems as if, should it not start on the first crank, it won't have the power to crank it again. I need to put it on a bigger charger for a few hours. |

I had the same issue on my '08 at about 1000 miles -- a wiring harness was replaced under warranty. No problems since. |
