Compared to what I see here in South Florida everyday, that guy is geared up. Tank top, shorts and sneakers or SANDALS............ Riding a (insert import bike name here) __________ is the average norm down here.  | ||

im not used to seeing people with helmets. usually if they do have one on it IS a sport bike rider. | ||

so the guy is cruising without a helmet. I ride my motorcycle with no seat belt, and I'm sure some folks in Plymouth valiants are getting all worked up about that, too. It's his life... just as any of us, riding motorcycles as opposed to driving SUVs, are increasing our risk factor. Live and let die | ||

"sun glasses..." Probably spent $300.00 bones on a pair of Oakley's too. I'd have to honestly say that guys riding their Harley's without gear out number the sport bike guys doing the same at least 5-1 in the Milwaukee area. I saw a guy last week wearing shorts, a tank, green flip flops, no helmet and no eye wear(no wind screen) on his brand new 08 Fat Bob. If you have the money for a bike, why not spend a little more and buy gear that's at least going to save your eyeballs? | ||

"Live and let die" You want to be the driver of a car/truck who had an accident with a biker who died because he was too dumb to wear the right gear? You want to live with that? There's no number of "well, you shouldn't feel bad, he wasn't wearing a helmet" comments that's going to make you feel better. When dying comes at a cost (not just monetary costs) to other people, its not "live and let die". | ||

" Not my problem if it's his fault- the other guy wants to ride without a helmet, screws up and dies as a result, it doesn't increase my culpability just because it was my car he hit. makes no difference to me, at all. I respect that moron's right to endanger himself however he sees fit. You seem to be very worked up over other people's freedoms, buellinachopshop. I don't smoke, but it doesn't mean i'm upset about other people increasing their risk factor for cancer, either. it's their right. Live and let die. | ||

what i want to know is, who took the pic? was it the person driving the car behind him? on a cell phone maybe? that to some people would be just as dangerous to them........ i don't think i would ride on the interstate without a helmet. but i wouldn't preach to someone who doesn't wear one. in ohio we don't have a helmet law. how can you give someone slack who isn't even breaking the law. | ||

EVERY single time I see someone riding with minimal or worse NO gear my stomach does a double back flip with a twist. Seriously, It makes me sick because I cannot help but think of the consequences these people will have to live with for the rest of their lives....IF they survive. I was wearing gear when I got hit, or I would not be alive today and neither would my wife. I live with pain every single day as it is, and got to miss out on teaching my daughters to ride bicycles because I could not run along side them, just to mention one experience I will never get back. You do not control all the factors that can lead to an accident when you ride. I joke that it is "a little chlorine in the gene pool", but it's really making light of a sad situation. The cost of the gear and supposed discomfort that come with wearing gear are MINOR compared to the discomfort and cost that are associated with a skin graft. It has never been more true that "I'd rather sweat than bleed" ATGATT. | ||

not the "norm" in kansas. i know that section of road, ride it a lot. That pic is not a good representation of rush hour traffic. it is usually heavier. Most of the people i know wear helmets (about 3/4 of them). While questioning common sense i also would have to question the photographers lack of it. | ||

Like I say- anybody in a car has equal cause to 'tsk tsk' any of us well-helmeted folk for simply riding a motorcycle, as opposed to being strapped safely into a nice steel capsule with airbags. I wear my fullface when I ride, and if some fellow human being prefers to ride helmetless, and kills himself against my car, I have absolutely no problem with that. He died the way he preferred, and I am in no position to judge that man. | ||

I've ruined a few gloves and one helmet at slow speed........can't imagine what I'd feel at even a meager 40mph on fresh screed concrete with no gear.I wear full gear at gas stops unless I'm going to take a break. I even go in to get the mail with full gear(when on the bike). People really think I'm weird for that, but I ain't undressing for just a one minute stop..........or two, if I have to go to the counter to get a parcel......... | ||

We had a blessing of the bikes here this past Sunday and I was the ONLY one with a full face helmet out of about 200 bikes. Not too many wearing the half helmets. Ky repealed the helmet law a few years back, I always wear one but I want the choice and not be MADE to. Now eyewear is a different story, if you're running 25mph or more you just plain can't see which is dangerous for everyone involved. | ||

I took my MSF course a couple of weeks ago and out of the maybe 45 or 50 people in the class, there was only me and one other person with a full face helmet. Here in Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater no helmet is the norm not the exception. My son is doing the MSF course this week and I didn't give him a choice, full face helmet or he walks. | ||

FL has got to have the highest moto death rate. I have visited a few times and remember seeing a cruiser pull out in front of me with the dude wear tank top/shorts/flip flops. Girl had on a bikini and flip flops. I know the effects of wearing regular denim and going down first hand. Even your off the rack Levi's won't cut it at 40 mph. I pitty the "cool" guy. | ||

I also ride bicycles, would anyone care to compare a bicycle helmet to a motorcycle helmet? How about comparing road rash from a bicycle crash at 30mph versus a motorcycle crash at 60mph? A guy at work here was playing baseball recently and slid in to a base and got a bad case of road rash on his leg, instead of telling him ATGATT I instead told him about Tegaderm. I wore running shoes while on the S2 the other day, oh the humanity of it all. And today while driving the car in to work I almost got creamed by an impatient pickup truck driver merging onto the freeway, sometimes it don't matter what you ride or drive if the opponent outweighs you, but a quick lane shift got me out of the way and in front of him where I stayed for the next 8 miles much to his chagrin. | ||

Mine too.
Tough to "agree" with both sides, I guess? I don't envy any of them the pain they'll feel even from a simple 35-mph pavement slip-n-slide, but it is THEIR personal risk. At one point or another I've crashed everything I've owned. Safety gear is my friend, YMMV. | ||
