What exactly does turning off the White Wire do? Thanks. I also posted this in the Knowledge Vault, but I know a lot of Uly guys are the ECMspy gurus. |

Would appear to apply to Euro model only. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/201475.html?1148996466 |

Its connected to a knock sensor, Sensor listens for detention (Knock or ping), Then ECM suppose to retard timing. All stock bikes w/white wire. |

So what are the pros and cons to turning the "White Wire" on or off? It looks like my race ECM has it turned off by default. |

"So what are the pros and cons to turning the "White Wire" on or off? It looks like my race ECM has it turned off by default." I believe Race ECM's have different timing tables along with higher RPM thresh holds (RPM axis). I know you can't load race eeprom data in a stock ECM. |

The wiring diagram tells the tale of the "other white wire". The wire splits off and goes to the ECM and the speedo from the VSS which is located in the tranny. My experience was that it effected the AFV learn mode but my results were never duplicated by others. It is my opinion that there are only a few reasons that the ECM needs to know the actual speed of the motorcycle. Engine load can be calculated many ways but since there are five gears the VSS should not be a major factor in fueling. The AFV learn mode is speed sensitive. |

No table swap in ECMs before 2008. EEPROM data can easily be swapped between ECMs of the same type. Regards, Gunter |

No, it isn't. Regards, Gunter |

Gunter, Will the ECM learn if a new AFV for open loop operation if the motorcycle is not moving? Do you know why the ECM needs to know the vehicle's speed? |

Yes.

There are a few references to VSS in the EEPROM data. Mainly the different rev limiters, noise abatement and (although unused) fan settings. Regards, Gunter |
