Hi, riding my 2002 S3T at about 70 mph, hear a "phssst" sound, oil light goes on, oil temp gauge stops working. Get it off hiway, is still running, but one cly making tapping noise, gets louder and louder. Engine idle stays at 2,000 rpm, tapping/clacking noise really loud. Able to make it home. No external signs of oil puking or damage, but this sounds like some major $$. Any ideas? crank pin? valve pushrod? I have not had chance to get into bike yet.
thanks!
Christian

After researching some other postings I am leaning towards failure of the oil pump gear and/or failure of a lifter. Ouch!

Sounds like what just happened to me. Check to see if you lost a small screw out of the intake butterfly. Sounds like one of them came out and went into the motor. It is probably stuck in the cylinder head and the piston is hitting it at TDC. BR.

Will check all of the above, thanks! I had about 8 miles to get it home, the motor was still running but sounding bad. We were in 95 degree weather at about 1 PM, so I chanced it. Thanks dudes. I will try to take pics and post up when I get into the bike so others can see.

Good luck with this! I certainly have nothing to offer at this point...
