Took off this afternoon to go grab some lunch and made it about 1.5 miles from my house when my I lost power, the bike backfired a few times and just died. I pulled over and started assessing the situation. I had 0 electrical power. No lights, no horn, no starting...nothing. I got it home and started tearing it apart trying to figure out what was going on. I tried the key again and the lights came on but wouldn't try to start...not even click. I stuck a volt meter on the battery and have about 12.5V. Turned on the key and it dropped a little bit b/c of the headlight and such. I hit the start button quickly and the meter bounced around a bit and finally settled out around 7V or so. I turned the key off and the voltage went back to 12.5 so I turned the key back on and it again just dropped slightly. I tore the bike half way apart inspecting wires and such for any chafing or shorting but didn't see any. I am at a total loss here, has anyone else ever had anything like this happen? |

I know it sounds obvious, but check your battery cable connections. Many electrical gremlins have been traced back to terminal ends that have rattled loose. I had this happen, resulting in a bike that didn't want to start. |

It sounds like your battery is toast,7 volts under load is bad. How old is it? |
