Just announced here in Milwaukee this am. At least 400 will lose jobs due to a 1st Q that saw a 37% drop. |

Without knowing the detail of HD operations and where those 400 jobs are being culled from its impossible to say if this is a smart move or not. To me though it seems "layoff" announcements are often a knee-jerk reaction to appease the stock market and not based on business needs. Often you will see a company laying off folks and hiring new ones at the same time. But then its always easier (and cheaper) to hire the skills you need than train current employees in something new. |

From my decades of blue collar experience, generally a layoff is followed by lotsa expensive overtime. |

The fate of the York plant is still up in the air here. That would really put a hit on this area - 2000 good paying jobs plus there's the pride factor involved. Everyone in PA gets all puffed up because Harleys are made here. |
