Well, i developed a miss in my buell while riding down the street, just cruising because i just did intake gaskets on it and was test riding it. now, i can pull the plug wire off the back cylinder and it doesnt change the idle. i put a new coil on, changed plugs, im getting spark, and the injectors are both pulsing and squirting fuel. but the rear cylinder is just dead. i cant find my compression tester, but what do you guys think? im running to buy a new comp. tester now. well see... |

Musical plugs. Put the front spark plug in the rear cylinder, rear in the front, and see if the dead cylinder moves with it. I've had bad plugs right out of the box before... |

Have you tried spraying brake cleaner or carb cleaner on the intake seals from the left side of the bike? I've had them seal up fine, until I heat-cycle and a crimp or pinch pops up and pisses me off... |

that wouldnt make for a dead rear cylinder though would it? |

it could in theroy, check the compression first since you are going for the tester. OR quite frankly put your thumb on the plug hole and roll the motor over no woof, possible dead cyl in that you just replaced the seals you could have a leak check location and orientation of the seal vs the collar / head . |

I pulled the new plugs out... front plug is black and hot to the touch.. the rear plug is white and cool to the touch... hmmmm... |

i just started it and sprayed brake cleaner on the manifold seal area, no change in idle speed....... |

well heres the rundown so far.. things it has going for it... 1.placed plug against side case and cranked, both plugs sparked normally. 2.fuel is squirting out of both injectors. 3.brand new coil swapped on it and still have old coil to troubleshoot. 4.cylinder is pushing air out the spark plug hole, but may only be doing it because theres no resistance and if theres a hole in the piston it might show up once the compression tester is on.... Things that are not good.. 1.Rear cylinder isnt doing anything for performance. 2. pulling rear plug wire doesnt change the way the bike runs, i.e.-Cylinder is dead. 3.pulled the plugs after running, and the front plug was hot to hold, while the rear plug was cool to the touch. So now im waiting for a buddy to arrive with a compression tester to figure this out... |

180 PSI IN BOTH CYLINDERS!!!! figured it out... bad injector/clogged. im soaking it in some lucas fuel injector cleaner/fuel additive. beings as i had no actual injector cleaner on hand. ANYONE GOT A FUEL INJECTOR FOR SALE? it was squirting fuel, seemed to have a softer stream but apparently it was not squirting enough. because i swaped injectors and the problem went to the front cylinder. |

Glad you figured it..Much better than a blown motor.... Till you get it fixed, enjoy your Blast...heh |

At least you put Stabel in your race car, hotrod, boat, ect.... |

If you end up getting new from your dealer, the PN is 29533-99Y and they run about $57/each. Glad it was a relatively easy fix! |

Just curious if anyone has had this happen before? Would it be prudent to replace as a pair or just as they got clogged or wore out? |

I had an intermittent missfire with the engine light coming on. Trouble code translated to front injector. The problem turned out to be a chafed wire. That was a long time ago and it's been about 60,000 miles since then. Can you take them apart to see what was the cause of the failure? |

If you're in with a local mechanic, or have a NAPA store nearby, they sell "noid lights" for testing injector harnesses. Plug it in to the harness instead of the injector and it'll flash with every injector pulse. Should tell you if you have a wiring gremlin that behaved when you swapped injectors, or a bad injector. I'm leaning towards the injector itself since the problem migrated when you swapped, and didn't just disappear...disappearance would indicate a wire that wanted attention, but a migration that stays with a given part, that tells me "bad part". Unless you're building a race motor, no need to "match" your injectors. Buy 1, buy 2...totally up to you and your budget. For my dineros...I'm in there anyway and it's less than $100 difference between 1 or 2...I'd do two and keep the old one as a spare for later. Be sure to lube the o-rings so you don't tear one |

You may want to consider changing your oil again to. If the little bit of fuel you had in the cylinder was not burning,it may have leaked past the rings and thinned out your oil. |

That was the same thing that I went through when my injector went bad. It had been so long that I'd ever had that type of problem with a bike that it took me awhile to get into the troubleshooting mode. After I cleaned mine it ran good for about two minutes then crapped out again. After I swapped them (figured out how to do it without removing the intake) and transferred the problem, I decided just to replace both. |

Im an EXPERT at removng all things above the engine. injectors/manifold/stabilizers, engine locators/wiring/gas tank/ ect... ive had this bike apart more times than i can count. The previous owner did not take care of it AT ALL... so ive been slowly nursing it back to health. im tired of doing little shit constantly as it breaks or goes bad. so this winter im taking the bike apart and redoing the whole thing. repowdercoating the frame, new everything. although the new parts list on this thing is long... new coil ecm clutch cable brakes shock tires exaust turn signals handlebars levers mirrors etc. etc. etc. the kid just rode the bike into the ground. its sad really. it has the number 22 out of 50 custom harley paint job on it. and its chipped and scratched all over the place. cant even sell it for much so im just sanding it all down and repainting it. |

22/50 - is that the red splash over concrete paint? Sand gently and re-clear...that's a very cool paint set. Glad to hear another tuber has been saved |

yea its the red splash over concrete set. looks like a damned garage floor. lol. im not a big fan of it. its got a scratch all the way through to the metal on the tail section. 2 deep chips on the tank from horn/start button hitting them. and the fork gaurd on the fender has a 3" section that peeled off. i dont think i can get them touched up and they probably arent worth anything in current condition. |
