I've been wanting to paint my mirrors on my 9r to match the bike.I've seen this on other bikes I think a ducati.I purchased the paint(Krylon fusion) and I'm probably gonna do it this week.I don't think anybody has done this cause I've been checking the boards and wondering how it looks on the bike.Cause it looks real cool in my head. |

Couldn't tell you about the paint , but I've a zillion ideas that look good in my head, Unfortunately they're mostly illegal, immoral, or fattening. |

I have used the Krylon Fusion on several projects, and it is good stuff. On my 06' 600rr I painted a bunch of stuff with it (plastics) and it's no prep adhesion on a, what they call "molecular level" seems to be pretty good, never had any chips or scratches so it seems pretty durable on plastic "as advertised". Good luck and post some pics when your done and if you screw the mirrors up to bad you can have my mickey mouse ears that came off my 08' XB. |

That Krylon Fusion is really good. You will still want to use what they call Bulldog. It helps the paint stick that much better. It's basically a clear coat that you apply before you paint. Just don't rush it. Post pics when your done. |

So what color is your 9R ? I'm always more than happy to give my opinion (usually I am the only one still happy after I give it though) but need more info to do so. (Message edited by skinstains on April 29, 2008) |

I used a primer specifically made for preparing plastic surfaces before painting my right side duct work. It worked really well and I would recommend it. The adhesion that you get with paint to plastic really works best on a molecular level. I do not know what your mirrors are made of but I would guess they are ABS. If that is true, a paint and primer with a solvent base will allow for some chemical cross linking at a polymer level. This is what you want to have. |

So Im done for now.The one mirrors paint peeled a little when I was removing the tape but I want to see how it holds up.I didnt use primer and went through like 10 cotes or sp.I also would like to point out the micron.Beautiful.

The painted mirrors ended up looking real good IMO. Got a question for ya Joseph, how does your bike run with that Micron? Are you running a custom ECM map? Rich |

Can't comment about how an XB runs with a Micron, but here's a vid on youtube that gives a good example of how it sounds... and MELIKEY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv4DB7yyrSI |

I know exactly how it sounds. I have one on my 9. My 9 runs like dog snot under 3K, just curious what Hoseph had done to make it run right if that is the case. Rich |

I just have a k&n and race ecm.It is a little disapointing at low rpm but when the revs go up so does my enjoyment.I was wondering if you can use ecm spy on the race ecm.I have yet to call liberty and ask. |

Did you just remove the rubber sleeves from the stock mirror stems? I have been wondering what is under those...if that is it I am getting out a box knife! The paint does look nice -- bike looks nice, I like the yellow! I wonder what red paint would match my 12R's wheels? I think a trip to the hardware store is in order... Keep us updated on durability. |

all you have to do is pull back the mirror boot and there is a 13mm bolt from the bottom you can remove.Dont cut the boot if you might want to put it on again. |

My 9R runs GREAT with the Micron. No real dips in the torque curve. |

"remove and save for later" -- pahhhh! next your going to tell me to not use duct tape and bailing wire... seriously, thanks for reminding me to consider the non-cutting option. some days I get carried away. update: removed the rubber sleeves by unbolting, and during remounting right side mount threads (not the bolt) sheered off. sooooo, now i am picking up a new seat and a new right mirror mount for my 12r at the dealership thanks to warranty. Have to say my 12r looks kinda cool with just my left side mirror on -- kinda frankenstein-esq. so anyways, careful with your mounts, the metal is soft.)
