Bobby...If you already now how to ride your cheapest bet may be the DMV. Not sure how it works up there but in Florida you can get a paper learners permit after taking the written test for $5. That can be renewed every 30 days up to 3 times. Then take this paper back to the DMV and take the road coarse. I took mine on my 07 Bolt. It was very easy. I lost 1 point for running over 1 cone in the weave test. |

I see people recommending liability insurance only....are you F*(&*#G kidding?! a brand new rider, on a 100hp bike, and insurance only to cover other people?! insurance is NOT the place to skimp, especially on something as unstable as a bike. this kid could go out, buy a bike, and total it riding it home. so now the poor guy has no bike, and since he skimped on insurance, he probably declined GAP coverage too. if he did, he's now paying every month for a bike he no longer has. even if he didn't, he is paying for a wrecked bike, because his liability only insurance doesn't cover collisions. or, the bike is stolen, which, depending upon where you are, is a lot more likely than you'd like to admit. so he'd still be out a bike, since he had no coverage. or maybe he gets in a wreck with somebody who is under or uninsured, or gets in a hit and run. whaddya know, no coverage! you're screwed!
if I can offer one bit of advice (other than start on a much smaller bike), it would have to be DO NOT SKIMP ON INSURANCE. we riders are much, much more liable than cagers. it takes a much less serious accident to render our bikes unrideable, and they're much easier to steal. if you can't afford insurance on a bike, you can't afford the bike. another good reason to get a smaller bike. |

Get a Blast and respect it. It will do anything you want. Some folks never get a bigger bike. It's that good. |

A Blast is a nice bike for a girl or a kid or maybe a midget. I am 6ft and when I rode my girls I had to sit where the passenger spot is. If you want a motorcycle, get a motorcycle. It's not even effective as a training tool or taking the DMV test because of sitting position. makes turning awkward as your balance is off. As for the "y'all" explanation-save it. It is a hillbilly or hick term that implies a limited education. Just like "fixing to". Makes one sound ignorant. If you don't mind sounding like you were home-schooled in the woods, then by all means, continue to use those terms. |

Last fall I was told by a young "Kid" on a bagger at a gas station that my X1 was nothing more than a Sportster dressed in wolfs clothing.

I never questioned the quality of the Blast. My girl never had any problems with hers. Ran like a top. Again, if you are a girl or of diminutive stature, the Blast w/ be a fine acquisition. |

I have been overtaken and flogged to death on the bends by a little shit on an Aprilia 125 2 stroke.
You can have the most powerfull bike on the day but if you haven't got the skills to use the power it may as well be a moped. |

The power of the bike is irrelevant if it doesn't fit you. The Blast isn't a good fit for the taller or heavier rider. Personally I don't give a sh#t what someone rides. To each his own. For safety and handling purposes I do think it is HIGHLY beneficial to choose a bike that accommodates your dimensions. |

The BLAST is poised on the cusp of great opportunity.
It sells for a fair bit less than the Vespas that are multiplying by the day in New York City.
The BLAST, unlike the Vespa, offers decent acceleration, great brakes and great handling.
It is a "small" feeling bike. I was on the original test riding team when during the time the last two variants were under production testing. Gary and I always looked like a couple of bears wandering the back roads of Wisconsin.
It's an EXCELLENT motorcycle and enjoys the LOWEST warranty costs of any Harley-Davidson product made.
The BLAST quality and reliability are the equal of the best Japanese motorcycles. It was a true accomplishment. |

I know it's not Buell's thing, but I bet a retro cafe version of the blast would sell to the crowd that likes Vespas. I remember thinking that the GB500 Honda was a nice looking bike. That's the sort of thing I'm thinking of. I almost bought one, but the seller backed out and kept it.

It takes a while, here in Gotham, for visitors to understand that "youse" is singular.
"Youse two" would refer to a pair.
Not unlike parts of the country where "ya'll" is one and "all ya'll" is the group. |

Both are acceptable here.
Yins is the shortened version.
I think it comes from the large early German population.
Some Pittsburgh speakers; Joe Namath, Dennis Miller, Jeff Goldblum and Charles Grodin,
I can still hear their accents.
The Pittsburgh accent and usage is found nowhere else. |

hahhaha I havent checked back in a couple of days, but I do enjoy the slang talk. here in Baltimore or "Balwmer" we ahve our own dialect, its a mix between blue-collar northeastern and redneck Maryland dialect. Yall is common, but so is youse. Its odd, but people still question how I talk coming from a country town 20 miles from D.C. Anyways I do appreciate the advice. I believe the riding test/course might be on a blast or something similar. The blast looks cool, but I'm dead set on the Firebolt. When I got my car, I was dead set on a Focus. there were GTI's and other sorts of imports that were faster and cheaper, but I'm stubborn! I defintley will get "full" coverage, I work enough to be able to afford it luckily. As for the "deal" I found, it turned out the guy didn't have the title, it was leased bike. he said I'd only have to pay the $4200, but my old man and other people said that was defintley not the case, and I'd be saddled with whatever he didn't pay off to get the title. That or the legal hassles would keep me off the Firebolt until it was too cold to ride. That said, I'll wait another month, get my license and hopefully find a good condition Firebolt for around 4500-5000. The lowering parts will be about a grand (thanks for the info HD-Appleton btw!!) which isn't bad considering I can sell the stock parts to recoup my costs. I wish I wasn't so patriotic, I wouldn't have a problem riding a Jap bike, but nope. I love my Ford and I'm sure I'll love my Buell! In the meanwhile, I'll stick around and keep posting, and when the big day comes I'll be able to get more involved in the community. Any Baltimore folks, I'm talking to you haha. Thanks "yall". |
