>>>>do I ask for this flash update while she's there ??? Yes. Have them check to make certain you are running up to date software and ask them to call S.P.O.C. to confirm. |

If they look at you like a Lab puppy looking at an oscillating fan for the first time be patient. Some of this information is not moving around as fluidly as it might. Ask politely and if they have any problems ask them to call Buell tech (through S.P.O.C.) and simply insure they are working with the up to date information. This is an excellent motorcycle. |

Some of this information is not moving around as fluidly as it might. So why is that? Is it HDnet? Buell's fault? Dealer's not accessing the info properly? |

Court, my bike is running fine but how would a person know if they are running "up to date software" Can we just assume if its running fine all IS fine? Do you see a recall on all bikes for this or a select few that are having problems? |

It sure would nice to know what exactly this new software changes.... |

That's the case with almost all software/firmware updates I've seen. It would be nice if we could see the firmware rev on our bikes, then we'd know if we had the current version... Z |

Hurry...let's all RUN RIGHT IN WITH PERFECTLY RUNNING BIKES FOR AN UPDATE!? If your's ain't broke or troublesome, don't try to fix it...OR WORSE YET, "F" UP THE PROCESS OF CORRECTING ONE'S WITH FLAWS!...due to too much premature information to the general public! Give Buell time to have a really close and uninterrupted looksee at the few with issues. If then, after another few months goes by and this sight is mostly rid of the few unsatisfied owners out there, albeit, few by the comparison of the rest of us happy...UNLESS TEMPTED?... THEN, ask if a new update is really beneficial to your particular V.I.N...and WHY???...that is if your bike is running a, ok. Again, if your bike isn't broken, don't go lookin' for a fix for an issue that doesn't exist. This does nothing but cause drama and potentially, make matters worse when they were better before the fact. If your 11 is great now...Just enjoy it! SPRING AND SUMMER IS TOO SHORT NOT TOO! |

I agree, and I disagree..... Let me explain.... About a year and a half ago, my XB9SX was having some sort of battery issue and was very intermittant. I had told my service Mgr. about it and he asked if I kept it on a Battery Tender. I replied that I did not. He went on to say that he recommends that ALL bikes should be on a tender when not in use. Now after about 3-4 months and "old man winter" I finally had a problem so bad that required my trailering the bike to the dealership for them to repair...and of course it was about 3 months past warranty expiration. As it turned out, it was not the battery, it was the STATOR that had gone bad and was not charging the battery anymore. Bottom line was that IF I had been using a tender all the time, I would never have taken the bike in for service...most of my riding is fairly short distances 50 mile round trip daily commute, and the tender would have kept enough charge in the battery for me to keep on riding. SO...I agree that one should not always jump to the next level of software of any kind...you might fix something minor but might get something worse....never know. BUT....I disagree that this one should be passed up....a battery that is being discharged while in an "off" state is bad news period... and I suspect that MOST ALL of the 1125s are discharging and most of you owners are unaware of it. |

Bobup, I agree. My bike only had a low battery when new and I charged it. I put it on a tender about every other ride. I did notice that the charging system seems weak under 3000rpm. I take it as normal for the amount of electronics, lights and fans that are on it. I think that most of the bikes probably don't have a 100% charged battery in the first place, then they sit with a draw on them and they run down quickly. When my reprogram was done the dealer only knew there was new program out, but did not know what problems it corrected. When I reprogram a car I can see what concerns it corrects. It seems like they would know also. How would they know if they are fixing the problem? |

.. and I suspect that MOST ALL of the 1125s are discharging and most of you owners are unaware of it. Correct. Just like my BMW R1100S that I had. If I let it sit for more than 3 weeks, the ABS, ECM, clock, ... and other appliances on it would have drained the battery. On my XB, there's really negligible drain because there's hardly any electronics "maintaining" its state until my next ride. Not so with the BMW and certainly not so with the 1125R |

There will be more information forthcoming. However for the instant if my 1125R were running fine I'd do absolutely nothing but ride and enjoy it. When it is in for service the dealer will, as a matter of normal procedure, find if ECM is among the population that can benefit from a reflash. |

Okay...add me to the list interested in the ECM update. I have been riding without problems for 900+ miles. I have had it parked for as long as 8 days (painful to think about, but due to weather) with no problems starting. Rode every day last week for 50+ miles each day. Didn't ride Saturday. Tried to start her up Sunday, and she won't turn over...WTF?!?! Yep, sign me up for that ECM update...Just wish we had more info on what the problem is and how it is being addressed. With the reflash, are we perhaps losing some functionality that is causing strain on the electrical system? |

In my opinion there are only a couple of things that a reflash could do that would effect the charging of the battery. It could run the cooling fans less so there is more power to charge the battery. As far as the battery running down overnight, the only thing that a reflash could do is possibly correct the ecm from "waking up" for no reason and causing a drain on the battery. I have had ecms that "wake up" due to an outside trigger such as emi, rfi or aftermarket accessories wired improperly. Sometimes it is just a programming bug that was over looked that can be flashed to fix it. |

the million dollar question is why are some electrical systems seemingly fine and others not working. Buell could shed some light on the subject or continue to run in mystery mode. |

Good question Fresno. I'm beginning to believe it is somewhat a matter of personal perspectives on many of them. For instance, if I traded my bike, which I believe is perfect, for one that may be having a gremlin battery problem, I might find the traded bike to be perfect for me as well, and my original bike would start to have gremlin problems for the person I traded with. I'm not trying to say there aren't real problems here, just that perspectives seem to be muddying or masking the real trouble which may or may not have been found for sure yet. If the reflash were more than a feel good fix, everyone would get a recall notice or at least a call from their dealer...at least that's what I think. my $0.029 JJ |

Pumps and motors are the highest load units on 1125 so I would expect the run feature of the fan and fuel pump after the bike is turn off would net the best return. I'm sure a lot of the difference in problems is due to riding environment and styles. Joe |

havent had a single starting problem in the almost 5 months(700 some odd miles damn winter) ive had it. rode it monday as usual with no problems. it sat tuesday, and today not sh!t... it couldnt even hardly make the running lights produce a low glow. with the charger on start it would barely make one of the solinoids click. so i stuck it on the charger and 5 minutes later it says it is almost fully charged. not green yet but close. so the 9 got some use today. why? because it ALWAYS starts. well i suppose there was the one time when it blew the starter relay. although i didnt have alot of time to mess with it this morning so i do plan on checking all the connections when i get back home. you never know, it could just be something as simple as a bad ground. i can hope cant i?! Tim, have you checked the ground wire under the fender? Follow the negative wire from the battery down, it's by the rear shock. Z |

The majority of bikes imported to the UK have been afflicted with battery discharge problems. Dealers know nothing of the ECM reflash yet and none know why it cures the problem. Sadly, this great bike is gaining a reputation for unreliability and the press are giving it a hard time. A great shame imo. |
