I've been looking for an X1, without much luck I might add. Never been big on the M2's, don't like the carb and the rear leaves something to be desired in my eyes. However some pics I saw yesterday of modded tail plastic on an M2 have changed my mind. But not about the carb. I know that it's the opposite path of most people, but I prefer fi to carb any day of the week, now add in the ease of tuning with ecmspy and the injection seems to be a good route(I'm used to tuning my car already, plus I've got a wideband o2 that I can use. Since I'm new, I'm not sure how much will interchange. I know that the wiring, ignition, intake, TB and fuel pump all need to be changed/added. But will the X1 pump fit in the cyclone tank, will harness work with the M2 cluster, etc. On the cam topic, Seems that the only difference between the X1/S3 drivetrain and the M2 is the carb and the cams. So a cam swap would move the powerband around to be closer to the X1's rather than the M2. Worthwhile or not? |

I agree on your opinion of F.I. vs carb but if you already have a carb, you would get a good deal of bang/buck if you drop in X1 cams and rejet the carb. There are other differences between M2 and X1 bikes besides the engine management systems. I would suggest holding out for the X1. I happen to know someone that's getting a Uly soon and happens to have an X1 with only 82,600 miles |

@Guell - One bit of info down, a lot more to go, thanks. Also, the tail makes a huge difference to me, looks 1000x better. @werewulf - Search here is....well....it leaves something to be desired . Hit me up with a link, I'd like to check out your project. Also, drop me an email, address is my username at gmail. This way if I do end up with an M2 maybe we can work out a deal for your FI stuff. @Nate - Can you also drop me an email Nate, address is above. I'd like to talk with you about that bike, hopefully it's orange/nuc blue |

If I'm not mistaken one other big difference is Thunderstorm heads -- pricey little bastards too -- I'd hold out for the X1 or maybe consider an S3 -- I like to see the engine -- Bneck |

If you're serious about EFI on an M2 look closely at a Megasquirt system. Several Buells have been converted successfully and plenty of Harleys. You can keep the M2 ignition system and use it to trigger the Megasquirt EFI controller. I suggest you use an X1 or late S3 throttle body and injectors. A late S3 fuel tank would be ideal as it has the pump installed. Try a Google search, there's tons of info available. |

I'd keep looking for an X-1 if it was me. You prefer the styling and it already has the fuel injection on it. Plus you get better suspension pieces and a larger aftermarket selection of add-on goodies for an X-1 versus an M-2. Trust me, I have an M-2 and I'm very jealous of the pieces that I CAN'T get for my bike but are available for the X-1. And honestly, they are still pretty comparable in price because the tubers haven't rose in value quite yet, but I assume between attrition caused by mutant/chopper builds a relatively short production period for all tubers, these bikes will become more collectible in the next several years... |

Thanks for all the advice. I found a bike yesterday, put down a deposit today and I'm going to pay the rest when I go and pick it up on saturday. 01' X1, race ecu, race header, muffler, banks shifter, barnett clutch, carbon fiber body work and some kind of aftermarket wheels (I believe them to be marchesini, but I didn't remember to write it down) Originally a black frame/black body work bike. $3500.
