I've pulled some quotes on the issue. This is frustrating:
quote:I had the ECU replaced and only stalled 3 times today. and I have a nice yellow light above 9k rpm ! Check engine. I'm going back to my dealer on monday ....just like every second week since I have it !
quote:Just got my bike yesterday; a stock 1098. I did 230 km to get back home riding back road. The bike stalled twice at red light wile idling in gear. Today, I went in town and went for a spin..for about 30 Km and the bike stalled 4 time; Twice on idle in gear. Once idling in neutral. Once downshifting in first gear.
quote:I hate hearing this stalling issue. I totally with you on this one. You would think by now they would have come up with a fix but instead all you hear is more and more riders experiencing the same thing. How bad is that when you are stopped at a red light and the bikes stalls. Or, when you down shift to 1st gear and coming to a stop and bikes stalls. I can't wait to get the bike but this is ridiculous. Wouldn't it be nice if a manufacturer initiated recalls and bulletins instead of waiting for things to escalate into something BIG!!!
quote:I am all too familiar with the stalling problem. It was a chronic problem with my 1098S. The bike would stall at idle, coming to a stop and even turning slowy into a parking lot. I lost count of how many times it stalled during the break-in period. In my opinion this is a potential safety issue because I almost got hit from behind when the bike stalled turning into that parking lot. People don't expect you to stall in front of them. My dealership attempted adjustments to fake out the O2 sensor but that just made matters worse (stalled 6 times on the way home). After 600 miles of frustration I dropped more money to have the Termi slip-ons, new ECU and air filter installed during the first service. The problem has deminished (only 2 stalls over 135 miles) but my idle is also running high at 1500 - 1600 rpm. The high rpm may be over compensating. It's time for Ducati to step and set things right for people who haved dropped serious coin in their product. Race bike or not, it's sold to be used on the street and should be safe to operate. Don't get me wrong, I love the bike and would recommend to any enthusiast but I also expect more proactive support from the manufacturer.
quote:I live near Montreal...I dont know if you been driving around here but we are worst than Bull Rider in Texas ...lol Seriously, I was scared when traffic started to move and my bike stall....I was watching my mirror....for what I can see behind !
quote:First few rides, were short, and no stalls. After about a month, I took it out for for 2 days of longer riding. First day, after about 3 hours of riding, stalled once in first gear, moving. 2nd day, after about 3 hours of riding, stalled 3 times, all at a stop, 2 times in neutral, once in gear. Havent taken it in yet for its 600 mile service, but plan on that in a few days.
quote:my $.02... 500 miles so far stalled 5 times stalling occurs after moderate accelleration in 1st gear then a quick stop.
More Ducati 1098 stalling problem discussion here. Took me two minutes to find the above complaints, and that ducati 1098 forum is comparable in size to our Buell 1125R forum here on BadWeB. |

I stalled so many times the first 2 weeks, that I lost count. At red lights, pulling in the drive way when I got home, a few times on the highway as I down shifted, a few times as soon as I jumped on to get ready to go.... I also had an oil level that literally came to the top. Once the excess oil was dained, my percentage of stalls dropped dramatically. After 1500 miles, I'm not sure if I have stalled once..... I now have 5900+ |

34 miles to go until the 1st service/oil change. The only stalls I've had so far have been user error. Once I re-flashed my organic ECM to adjust to different rpm's, no stalls. Heading to Kerrville TX this weekend with my 1125R and my buddy with his VFR for some Hill Country riding. He's already upset with my performance at 7,500 rpm's. I can't wait to see his reaction when I can let ALL the ponies loose to run! |

Didn't the 1098 have a recall for something like the ECM? Might have been a stalling issue, come to think of it. If I had time I'd search the recall records at the Fed's but, it's time for me to throw a leg over my 25r and ride off into the sunrise (heck I have to go east to go home so no sunset for me ;+}) Later all, Neil S. |

This is frustrating: Yes it is...whether you own a 1125r or 1098. |

Well said Harlan! The difference is that the 1098 starts right up after it stalls... |

Once I re-flashed my organic ECM to adjust to different rpm's, no stalls. what exactly do you mean reflashed your organic ecm to adjust to different rpms? would it only run at one exact rpm? |

Did I miss something? Why the Ducati quotes? |

Organic ECM = My brain. Being used to my tuber's, I was used to running the engine at lower RPM's. I used to "creep" out of the neighborhood in the mornings w/ clutch out & no gas to keep the noise down & the neighbors "happy." Once I figured out this bike is most happy at 4k+, and does not like to start from a dead stop when still new from LESS than ~3k, no more stalls. Maybe I'm just lucky, but so far, so good. The only problems I've had with my 1125R have been because of the rider, not the bike. Once I readjusted my thought processes, no more problems. Here's hoping it stays that way.

I've never had my 11 do this, not once and now over 3k miles. I also never downshift to 1st gear coming to a stop. I downshift to second and then click neutral and front brake to a stop every time. I've never seen the need to engine brake in 1st gear unless up in the rpms and readying for a tight turn. But not a stop. Just my two cents. |

Did I miss something? Why the Ducati quotes? I believe Blake is attempting to show us that the 1125r is not the only new, competitive, high-performance V-Twin bike with issues. I understand that. I was a little confused about him mentioning frustration at the beginning of his post. Seems to me he would have the opposite feeling regarding common stalling issues. |

"I believe Blake is attempting to show us that the 1125r is not the only new, competitive, high-performance V-Twin bike with issues." Wrong. Read the first quote. The guy received what was supposed to be a fix for the issue, but to no avail. From what I've read here, that hasn't happened. Buell when given the chance, has stepped up and resolved every single issue right from the start and is now doing so apparently in a distribution-wide effort. Some of those Ducatis, the 1098S versions are darn near $20K motorcycles, yes? |

When you compare the two situations, the Ducati issues seem much more wide-spread and they were handled less efficiently. Advantage Buell! |

Ducati service? Hah? An oxymoron. Good dealers are far and few in between (when you find a good one they tend to be real good) but most of them are mediocre to disastrous. Be the dealer situation as it may. Ducati has little control over that, just like Buell has little control over a dealer - except the ultimate control - contract termination. But this is more problematic. The 1098 model has been out for a year and the this is not resolved? That problem lies squarely with the Ducati company. |

Why not all those in favor of Ducati right click over to that forum? Don't read too much of the jap bikes here, only those that either have moved from them or as a simple comparison. I hope with the new KTM coming soon that won't be the over riding subject matter here? Why can't we stick to this BUELL 11? My interest is being lost more and more this way than not. |

'When you compare the two situations, the Ducati issues seem much more wide-spread and they were handled less efficiently. Advantage Buell!" Wow Blake, you read a few posts on Ducati and you know the problems are more wide spread, talk about conjecture.Seems both bikes have problems, maybe because Ducati has sold probably triple the number of 1098's than Buell has 1125's might make it seem Ducati's problems are more widespread. |

When I had a problem with my Ducati I saw the President of the company at an event in North Carolina and let him know how I felt. |

Blake, Are you saying that every bike that goes in with an issue gets resolved on the first visit? I understand you were trying to make a point, but only two of those seven quotes actually mentioned going to a dealer to get their bikes looked at. Maybe there is a fix for their problem just like you say Buell has for theirs, but they are not taking them in or they just have some not so great techs also. I wonder if on the Ducati forum they are talking about the 1125R's problems and saying "Advantage Ducati" when they don't know all the details, just stuff they read on the internet.
