So washed the bike today and decided the exhaust soot on the rear wheel and swing arm had to go. I remembered the previous thread about simple green damaging the powder coat so started looking around the garage for something effective. Decided to test this on a small section on the underside of the swing arm.
The Acetone and nylon scrub sponge was very effective and did not appear to damage the finish. I'm not sure what the long term effect may be, but couldn't be any worse than the corrosives in the exhaust soot itself, so decided to go ahead and give it a go. Cleaned it with the acetone, rinsed it, then hit it twice with soapy water. Here's the result..

Don't let the acetone get on the paint or any decals. We used that to clean the fiberglass on the boats. Works great, but will make a decal disappear in a second. |

Looks like you need to take some sand paper to the chicken strips too! (hehehe) Wheel looks great, I'm going to try that. JJ |

Looks like you need to take some sand paper to the chicken strips too! Ah is that the trick to get ride of them? Well I'm going to try Keith Codes Superbike School first. I'm signed up for May 20th at VIR. Will do the Buell Inside Pass on the 19th first though. |

hehehe, I couldn't resist. Been trying to scrub that crap off of my wheel with no luck so far. Do you notice anything bad happening to the powder coat from the acetone? The weather's not been cooperating with aggressive riding here lately but I've managed to cut down my chicken strips to just shy of 1/4 inch. Might just have to sand paper the rest if it doesn't start getting sunny over here. Had some snow down to the beach a few days last week! Freezing just about every night. Very strange for this time of year and the whole global WARMING(?) crap. Just doesn't add up...guess I'll have to call Al and find out what's up with that! JJ |

Are you two (Xb9 and Spectrum) still using the acetone/engine degreaser on the wheels? Mine are in need of a deep cleaning also. Still no problems??? Matt |
