So yesterday I realized both of my lights were out. Everything else worked just fine. I checked all of the connections, and paid close attention to all of the common rubbing points and potential loose grounds mentioned on this board. I then replaced the lights and as soon as I would touch the throttle they would brighten, and then they would dim back to normal output when I let off the throttle. So long story short they both popped when I made it to 2nd gear. My question is, what is causing such a spike in voltage? The bike is 50 miles away and is going to the dealer for repair under warranty. I would like to have an idea of what it could be. Oh yeah, it's a 06 Uly with 9000 miles and I'm not running any accessories.

Sounds like the voltage regulator.

Tape a multi to the light wires and rev it to see what voltage you are getting.

If it goes up way high( over about 13-14 volts ) I would say its your regulator.
