How many of y'all are able to ride off into the sunset with your sidestands down? My 1125R is apparently one of those without the sidestand interlock feature (manual states that "some models" have it--- why not all models?). I think I'd really rather have that feature as I sorta forgot to put up my sidestand today and rode off for a while before I noticed a funny scraping sound (looked down and immediately kicked it up)... yikes! | ||

Only the export models have the interlock - domestics models don't. This is across all of the Buell/Harley line. | ||

If the interlock is like ducati's be glad you don't have it.. Hell they even sell kits to bypass it on bikes that have it.. | ||

Yup, the kick stand is designed to retract if left down. It works very well. | ||

Please NOTE, this is purely MY opinion so don't shoot too low in response!  The deletion of a kickstand switch in todays world is totally ignorant by whomever made the call at HD and or Beull to do so. I read of this topic elsewhere. I won't say for a fact but someone apparently spent a whole lotta green to safety check/approve the auto retracting sidestand/ride away retract system/ect or whatever you may wish to call it. ...if nothing else, it will get your attention should you feel and hear it while riding away!...that meaning, with the kickstand down...AND IF IT WORKS AS DESIGNED THAT DAY! I've also read of two owners having seen this alleged feature in action just pushing their bike around...the result was a non running, lay over. YOU DO have to be careful and make very sure that the kickstand is loaded properly...in the pulled back position before releasing your pawls...this is just moving the bike around under your power! I think I am used to the old school worry of a kickstand hiside? YES...I AM! This is 2008, not old school scooter days. I for one, totally disagree with deleting the switch. The switch makes you think!...thus, correcting yourself. All things mechanical/electrical fail or malfunction but my gamble concerning this subject would be in favor of the switch instead of a possible mechanical patent right. I truly hope that we don't read of a kickstand related dismount revolving around this feature or lack of one. And for the record, I'd hate to be in the engineer's riding boots that dreamed this up and hurt themself in the process...or worse yet, that of another. | ||

Does the interlock work like a ducati where you can't even start the bike with kick stand down.. would kinda suck not being able to not start your bike to let it warm up.. | ||

I've just got one question for you Zack... If YOU were the deciding main man in charge...also LIABLE in this process and knowing the mentality of the general public... Would YOU still be giving the knod yes to this design practice? Please ponder about that for a moment. I don't believe this is what makes the world go round. I do believe that a whole lot of lawyers will continue on if the worst happens though. Common sense wins out in engineering principles. Your bud can did bandaid the failed switch though, that I'll give you...which I already did in my first post concerning all things fail. Nothing personal but I would have spent a weeks beer money on the replacement switch to correct it properly. Thats enough for me, I'm gonna have a miller lite and go to bed | ||

You missed the point Sly, different PREFERENCES make the world go 'round. I ride off with the kickstand down every once in a while, to nobody's detriment. Enough to recognize the sound and flick it up as I roll off. I get very irritated when "safety equipment" gets in my way. I don't like Helmet laws either... uh oh, better kick that soapbox away. I'm with Zac on this one. I have ridden off several times with the kickstand down and later heard it come back up when it made contact with the ground. As long as it doesn't cause the back tire to lift, then its working as designed. Good riddance to the old interlock system on my 03 XB. | ||

see now i love the kick stand set up on my 03 xb. didnt like it on my 04 and sure dont like it on my 1125. hell i had to catch the 1125 from falling over while i was scrubbing the bike. the damn kickstand doesnt even lock into the place it is supposed to be. i always set them on the stand and give them a tug back to make sure its as far as it can go. my 03 i can park facing down hill and still not knock it off the kick stand. i couldnt care less about the safety switch just make the thing latch into place so i cant brush against it and knock it over. |
