I put the bike down this morning! I was pulling up to a red light with my brother riding right next to me. As I always do, I took my hands off the handle bars to stretch them out. All in one motion I went to reach back for the bars and apply the back break when I hit something slick in the road. SMACK! Face first on the asphalt. My shield on the helmet is f*c*ed. The left blinker snapped off. The shifter arm peg snapped off along with the left rider's peg. My hand hurts like a bitch, my knee is scrapped up. Most of all my pride is hurt. I dropped my baby. |

I feel your pain! My first drop on my XB was backing it to the curb to park. Left peg, left front blinker... and of course, I did it in front of a DOZEN buddies! |

Dang Firebolt. Sorry to hear that. I have gotten in a bad habit of using my rear brake when I shouldnt. And I also take hands of the bars. Feel good that I will remember that, and you may have prevented a brother from going down in the same manner. Glad to read you're not too banged up. Same goes for the bike. Helmet visors are somewhat inexpensive. |

I just got off the phone with Branden Harley. Pretty cheap fix. $15.62 for a new shifter toe peg and rider peg. Not too shabby. Not that the adrenaline has subsided, I'm feeling a little more of the pain. |

Ya, i turned my bike off, put the kickstand down next to the curb, got off the bike, took my helmet off and sat on my buddies gf front steps to watch my X1 slowly become part of the pavement. stupid mistake! |

Well on the bright side you made it through the initiation with little damage. Good thing you had a full face helmet on. Keep a eye on that hand, don't be too stubborn to go to the doc if you need to. |

Glad you're not too scuffed up! Face first on the asphalt. My shield on the helmet is f*c*ed. Yeah, but aren't you glad you had it on? That coulda been LOTS worse! rt |

"As I always do, I took my hands off the handle bars to stretch them out." I don't always do that, but I do it sometimes. Now I'm gonna stop doing it at all. |

Ditto that. No more "Look, Ma!..." for me. Glad it wasnt worse. Maybe a justified reason to get some cool aftermarket signals? |

I don't think taking his hands off the bars made him crash. It was because he hit the back brake. |

That is a great reminder about helmets. I just ordered a new Scorpion EXO 400 for my daughters. When I saw that 60% of helmet impacts are to the chin and face, I realized letting them ride with their old open faced helmet was a dumb way to save $150.00. What kind of helmet were you wearing? Hope you and your bike recover quickly. Bill |

I know...I was just thinking that a "hands-on" approach would increase MY chances of coming out of a cluster like that unscathed. I let go of the bars too much. Im not as good of a rider as the rest of you guys and I need all the help I can get. Im not pooping on Jesse's ability as a rider, but my own. Sorry if it was misunderstood. |

Maybe a justified reason to get some cool aftermarket signals? My exact thinking Torque. I don't think taking his hands off the bars made him crash. It was because he hit the back brake. Looking back at the situation, I believe your absoultely right Cyclone. It's sucks that's what it took for me to learn the lesson. Lesson learned...I move on. |

My first time was at about 80-85mph. Don't feel bad...s**t happens. Lesson learned. |

I just got home from officiating football. I had to take a drug break. It's amazing how sore I am from only smacking the asphault at 5mph. I ended up having to buy a whole new shifting assembly. It was worse off than I thought. |

Well glad you're OK. As a wise friend once told me "Steel ya buy, Skin ya gotta grow" Trust me it's cheaper to buy a shifter assembly or 23 than a trip to the hospital. Don't ask how I know. |

Do check the dealership for a signal replacement. Be prepared for a pleasant surprize. |

How about a photo of the helmet? I am curious how bad the face shield got dinged. Glad you were not seriously hurt. |

I took pictures yesterday. To be honest I forgot to upload them. I spent the second half of the day stripping down the bike to have it ready for all my parts to come in. I have to officiate a ball game tonight. When I get home I'll try to get them resized. |

+1 Panhead_Dan I bought the Buell signals for the front of my KLR-250, as they were cheaper and better then the Kawasaki factory ones. Many VStrom owners doing the same... |

Blinker snapped off. Little bit of road rash there.
Road rash on the left mirror
Shifting assembly bent all to hell. I was able to drive it home but then had to pull it. Other than that, the frame puck did it's job. |

My oh my, tooka close up of the asphalt ya? Howd you feel about the modular?? Did it stand up as well as youd hoped?? I like them but it seems most here think they are not so good. Your opinion....seein as you are now EXPERIENCED.....heh |

That damage is at a very slow speed, so I hate to think what it would have done at a faster speed. I've had enough concussions in my football days to know that I received one the day I smacked the asphalt. So I'm not really sure if it did it's job well enough. |

The helmet damage doesn't look that bad. Although I am glad you were wearing a full faced helmet. |

No it's not bad, but apparently is compromised. I hit at the crown of the helmet first then you see the face shield. I'd rather be safe than sorry. |

"Other than that, the frame puck did it's job." Yeah, and I wonder why they weren't standard parts on XB's? Sure... they are now! But I had to order mine since the dealer didn't have them, showed up two days too late! Glad your ok... Yeah, looks like it's time for a new helmet. |
