OK. Here it is. I got my used kit from a fellow BWB and loaded on the laptop. Plugged in the usb to the back of computer and here's the funny bit, where the hell do u plug into the bike. I assumed there would be a separate jack on the bikes computer...my bike has a grey connector on the throttle side and a black on the brake side, do I disconnect one of them and plug in, those plugs are a lot larger than the scan tool plug? Pictures are appreciated. Hopefully I don't sound to dumb seeing as I work in telecommunications for a living. Thanks af226 |

Look at the front RH (as you sit on it) of the fueltank cover. There will be a small area behind the steering head, below the fuel tank cover, and the connector will be a small grey 4-pin connector living there. Originally, it had a rubber plug but that may be gone now. This plug is deadheaded, it hooks to nothing else but external computers. The location is hard to describe, but it would be behind the front RH turnsignal in your profile picture of your bike. (under the fuel tank). Confused yet? |

Make sure you have the kill switch in the run position. Things don't work do well with it in the kill position. Don't ask how I know that one for sure... |

ok: the short version, all port settings must match the hardware a. open the program off line and check the port settings ie program is set to com 1 and the port is actualy com 1, [device manager] b. make sure that no other soft ware is looking for it. (blocking use) c. connect the cable to the bike, with the program running, then key on, kill switch on, Then on your keyboard press Ctrl + C, [ connect ] in a few seconds it should connect. If you get an error post it here We will try to help. the software communicates weather running or not. HOWEVER there is a time out that can kick in that will shut down the com port on the bike after 15 seconds on the first attempt if you dont have "traffic" as I recall. IF the settings are right and the cable is ok it works with the onboard com port. caveot If the machine is running W98 you may have problems W98 serial comms could be "wonky" depending on the hardware check for version compatibility in the software help. the tool is bloody simple other wise (Message edited by oldog on April 01, 2008) |

I would get the "Keyspan" adapter. It solved my problem a couple of years ago. |
