I was getting everything back together on my X1 after replacing the primary chain, I took it out to the garage, and checked the oil, upright and level, nothing showed on the stick, so I ended up adding about 3/4 of a quart. Started it up and was letting it warm up before checking it again then BOOM The oil dipstick/ lid came blowing off hitting my garage ceiling and blowing oil over everything with in about 10 ft of the bike. I hope that the only thing wrong is that I filled it with to much oil and the pressure built releasing out the top and thats it. 1. Could it be something else? ie. oil not flowing back to motor? 2. Did it do any damage if it was only running like that for about 2 minutes? Also, I went to drain some of the oil out of the oil tank, and even though the tank was full the oil only cam out pencil lead thin, not gushing like I expected.... Is this normal???? Thanks Adam |

Normal, flow yes. Slow and a small stream. Clean it up after draining all oil and changing the filter. Fill with recommended amount. Run till warm, shut down and check again warm. Try not to check while cold and not running. It is deceptive. Oil can leak down past the check valve and give you a false reading. bike has to be run so the oil pump brings the oil level to somewhat normal level. Yes, had it happen to me. Filled up without getting the bike to run and overfilled a half quart over. Made one hell of a mess. Best wishes. |

Nope, no harm done. That must have been one "classic" moment in your garage. You should set up a video camera and do it again. You just might win a million dollars.
