Two distinctly different bikes. The XB12's are more akin to the S4 and S4R Monsters to my thinking. |

Kevyn, I thought the S4 and S4R were sport tourers. |

Sport tour with the ST-2 and ST-4. Monsters are the naked bikes with more agressive chassis geometry and shorter wheel base. Have a look around the Duc web site for more specifics. From first hand experience, the 900SS has smooth power delivery from the bottom all the way up with a whole lot 'o' fun startin' around 5000RPM. The SS smooths out and becomes 'rigid' at about the 80MPH mark and just starts wailin'! The DS(dual spark)800/1000 being used in the Monsters has larger displacement than the 900 and a reshaped combustion chamber and different valve angle to increase the burn effeciency. No first hand experience, but no one is trading them in for something faster...the Multistrada shares the same engine and is getting great reviews from owners and motopress. Can't recall any negatives about power delivery. Buells and Ducs are two very different machines, especially when trying to compare the SuperSports to the XBs' |

Man...the XB 12 has the first torque curve of any HD product that keeps climbing in the higher RPM range...with a longer stroke now, that seems a little odd. Anyone know the cam specs on the XB12's? I'm guessing the torque as shown here is a function of when the intake valve is opening....& it must be opening real late! Dale A. |

Hmmm, SportRider is comparing the XB to the SS and CycleWorld is lumping the SS into the street bike group with the XB's. Maybe they're looking at displacement... To my thinking, the SS is a few inches longer and the steering rake and trail are not as agressive as the XB or the Monsters. I've read some ride comparisons between the XB and the SS when the XB was first into'd to the motopress, so YA, maybe it's a fair comparison. From a riding stand point, the SS is more comfortable and ergonomically correct. I know there are a bunch of XB riders who have taken their bikes for extended rides and done well. I have a choice of riding an S2T or the 900SS and more often it's the SS. The S2 has a fantastic riding position and is rock solid and if I didn't have the SS, it would be the main ride for sure but it does lack a certain technical 'sophistication'. I'm not sure that the 900SS isn't just as 'primitive' as the 96-2002 Buells when compared to the XB series. In the end, for me anyway, the DucSS is just nothing like the XB's. I'd say it's closer the the S3's and S2's but then you're comparing sport touring machines and I'm not sure it's fair to compare the S3T to the Duc ST2 and ST4... |
