I went to start my '06 Uly today and the fuel pump ran continuously. I let he pump run for maybe a minute or so before I turned the key off. It did start and ran fine but I'm concerned that there may be a problem with the fuel pump.

I am supposed to ride from East Tennessee to South Florida this Saturday and I won't have time to get it into the shop b/4 then.

I just bought the Uly new last month and I'd hate to have to leave it home and ride my Bandit but I don't want to be left on the side of the road.

Anyone have a similar experience with the fuel pump?

I am not really clear on what your asking. The pump has to run constantly or the bike won't get fuel.

Does the pump howl and whine after you start the bike?
If so, it's just a Buell thing. Both my XBs have very noisy pumps. I'd be worried if I didn't hear them.

OK what I mean is typically when the key is turned on but b/4 the starter button is pushed the pump will run for 4-5 sec and then stop. That is when I typically thumb the starter.

Today when I turned the key on and waited for the pump to stop it just kept running.

The fuel pump on my 05 12Scg never stops. From the instant I turn the key it whines loudly.

How many miles?
Completely normal the older they get. When mine prime they whine loudly and then when the light on the dash shuts off the pump quiets a little, but still whines. I notice that the warmer my bike is when I start it the quieter the pump becomes.

Again, nothing to worry about at all. If you don't hear it at all it's time to worry. : )

Thanks guys I feel better now!

Luxor I bought her new as a left over about a month ago and have only had a chance to put about 700 miles on. Will be doing about 2k miles next week if all goes well.

I had an 05 Firebolt b/4 the Uly and the bolt never did this so I was concerned.

Cool M_singer! Great choice of bike.

Also try to put the best quality fuel you can in her, super hi-octane. I notice my pumps are quieter when I run Shell Super, don't know why , they just are. : )

Anyway, have a blast on you trip.

FYI - Your pump may be louder / more noticeable on a low tank.

Luxor I wouldn't even think of putting cheap gas in the Uly! I most often run BP/Amaco

Midknyte the tank was low when this happened but not so low that the low fuel light was on.
