Does anyone out there have recommendations for gun safes?? I have looked all over and have not found any review boards on gun safes.

I am looking for a 60x30x25ish, that is fire and burglar rated, at less than $1000. Used is OK if warranty is transferable. I've looked at the local Cabelas and they seem over priced and craigslist just has people looking for safes, not selling safes.

Any help would be great.

I have a Cannon safe in that exact size. Paid something like $800.00 for it about ten years ago. The "peace of mind" for theft alone was worth that. Fire and burglar rating.....is over rated. Who's going to steal a safe that size?......unless it's got a big stash of diamonds in it. Probably has happened, but not likely. Mine can be bolted to the floor if I wanted to, but lags screws can be pried out and thru bolts could be cut loose from under the floor......or simply cut out the floor with a cordless Sawzall. Fire? Most safes will fall into the basement if there is one..which will wreck anything inside anyways. Depending where it's at, anything inside is going to get charred if the fire flame impinges on it for any length of time. If the shack burns to the ground, the innards are being baked for a LONG period of time. The perimeter walls are the best locations to survive a fire. Irreplaceable stuff needs to be in a safety deposit box. The Cannon safe will frustrate amateurs and they will go away empty handed. Pros will open it with ease as with any non commercial safe. What is amazing is how much stuff you will accumulate and keep in your safe. Mine got pretty tight inside, pretty quick. Mostly junk that is worth nothing except to me..and the rest is replaceable with an insurance claim

I own 5 safes, all from American Security.

Whether it be currency, bullion, documents or firearms, AMSEC is my number one choice.
