Even though your baby doesn’t treat you right all the time, it never hurts to buy her a new frock. When Miss Jade dirtied her dress, and threw me in the road, I didn’t get mad. I just got her a pretty purple thing for spring, a Buell XB front fender, some new Metzlers, an Ohlins steering damper and a billet front fork brace. I even added an oil cooler, even though she wasn’t absolutely sure that she wanted one. And of course, some power coated black levers and rear directionals, a Police seat, and this and that. Do you think I spoiled her?
Doesn’t matter when you’re in love, does it?

Jon, fine looking machine. I owned the first year Dyna (91 Staugis) and found it a very competent all around bike. Your upgrades make me think I should have kept the ride. |

Gotta love a FXDX. HD's best kept secret IMO. I miss my Dyna. |

Good Golly Miss Molly That FXDX was the 9 lb sledgehammer in the line up. Unfortunately the Harley crew got them about as much as they got Buell. Hated to see that bike cancelled, or the 883R, or The VRSCR, and maybe a premature death knell for the XR1200. That side of the house doesnt seem to want to embrace decent lean angle, hard acceleration or "sport" bikes. |

It is a shame that the Harley crowd and the sport bike folks have built such a wall between themselves. I must admit I was rather anti Harley myself for fifty years or so. I rode one in the late fifties, and it was scary compared to my Norton 99, one of the best handling bikes of the time. Since then, Harley has been very successful by selling a lifestyle first, and a motorbike second. Thus the bikes are rather primitive, although they are steadily improving, but the emphasis is entirely on style very much at the expense of performance. it is unfortunate, as riding a 650 pound, 95 cubic inch, hundred horsepower Harley has its unique charms, that is not really duplicated by any other machine. The problem is, it cost a fortune to convert a stock Dyna into anything remotely sporting, and the rest of the Harley line just isn't worth fooling with. Once any one of my sport bike friends deign to take Miss Jade out for a ride, (and most of them won't:-), they come back with a real big grin , and a look of genuine surprise at how much fun they just had. PS: for any who might be interested, here is a list of modifications to Miss Jade: 1.S&S 95" piston kit, 10.3:1 compression 2.Bored out Harley cylinders 3.S&S heads, custom ported 4.S&S rocker boxes/ powder coated wrinkle black 5.Screaming Eagle roller rocker arms 6.S&S adj. push rods 7.Feulin high output oil pump 8.S&S 585 gear driven cams 9.S&S air cleaner 10.S&S super E carburetor, modified with DaVinci jets. 11.Crane adjustable ignition 12.Screaming Eagle heavy duty starter 13.Screaming Eagle coil spring competition clutch 14.Hayden hydraulic primary chain adjuster 15 New HD battery 2007 16. like my one buddy says, burple is beutifull and although that is one beutifull bike john i don't miss the 2000 fxd that we had. my back couldn't go from tampa to daytona on that thing with out it killing me. i would think that you would have put forward controls on the bike as tall as you are. and does the solo saddle do any thing for the way it rides. |

Neil, I initially got the solo seat, the Police model, because I liked the solo seat look, with the exposed rear fender, even though the Police Seat is a bit too large. Since I installed it, I really love it, for two reasons. It raises me a couple of inches in the saddle, making long rides A LOT more comfortable. I was also surprised how much better I could corner the bike from a slightly higher perch. I mean the difference was huge. I still think it looks too big.

look how well the uly does staning so tall. i'm in awe the way they handle being that high up. but i also know the difference about having a taller seat like on the nightster. it's the other way around though. had to take off the solo seat and put the twoup seat on in order to ride it comfortably. so when you planning on getting into suches. |

Interestingly, the higher the center of gravity of a bike and rider combination, the less lean is required at a given speed and radius in a corner. I used to think it was the other way around. I plan on riding the Dragon and the Cherry Cola on Friday, then coming down to Suches late Friday afternoon. Let's pray for good weather. |

That is interesting! So, while the Uly has less lean angle available than a firebolt, it takes less lean angle to ride the same corner at the same speed. |
