I've got good news and bad news. Good news was that I changed mine out Wednesday, hit the starter and she fired to life immediately. Bad news, well, it's not really bad, just takes a little while. I removed my seat, airbox cover, left side scoop and removed the four torx bits holding the airbox floorplate so that I could shift it out of the way. Then I used a 5/8 open end for the front plug and a 5/8 spark plug deep well socket with a universal and an extension for my rear. Use a little copper neversieze on the threads of the plugs. I've heard folks have had bad luck with the "silver" type neversieze, which may or may not be the neversieze nickel based thread lube. Actual work time, not counting going over to my friends house and getting my socket set back from him... about an hour. After doing it once, you would probably have it down to about half-hour. Thinking back, I should have taken some pics of the stages, this seems to be a popular DIY topic. |

I have never heard of this problem with the silver neversieze, can you explain? |

Hmm, the 9's must be different from the XB12's. I removed my seat and air filter cover and used an extension with a swivel type end on it. Had it out in 10 mins and back in even less. Now my Dodge truck...thats a different story, I couldnt even get the plug boots off without ripping them an spent another 3 hours bending my body in crazy and painful ways to get the plugs out. Would much rather do the bike plugs...But yes the trick is the extension with a wobble end...Harbor Freight is the place to get that tool. Just a couple bucks. |

+1 Zoedogg.......I have never taken over 10 min. changing my rear plug on my xb9s. I start the new plug with a piece of fuel line stuck on the end so not to cross thread. I can't understand why some have such a difficult time with it . |

Yeah - the ONLY thing is just in re-starting it - be HYPER careful not to cross-thread. If you even THINK you're having difficulty, STOP. The hose/tube over the plug is a really great trick. Works every time - and I've changed plugs in hot engines too. |
