Bring a warm sleeping bag or extra blankets, a pad or matress, and something warmish for pajamas. It's safe to assume it'll be chilly at night. It's not safe to assume much more than that about the weather this far out. |

11 DAYS!!! Bring warm clothes!! Its better to have and not need than make a Walmart run and spend a bunch of cash and then need someone to haul your crap home and mail it to you...... Thanks again Toona |

I got a new 4" thick solo air mattress, and a new 0 degree mummy sleeping bag. Last year I had a 20 degree bag, and was sleeping directly on the ground (in a tent). Last year wasn't too bad, but hopefully this year will be better! I went to Walmart last night and picked up a very small tool box ($2.50) that should fit on my Ventura rack perfect, and leave room for a small cooler or another small bag on top of it. I also had another genius idea for my touring tank bag... standby for the update, hopefully will be done tonight. |

Hey Wolf, wasn't the Devil Dog's unofficial motto in the field "pack light, freeze at night?" Maybe it just fit those of us stuck on Kaneohe Bay, Hi :P |

The real trick to motorcycle camping is to carefully pack all your stuff and your motorcycle in your truck and drive to a cool place to ride. I love motorcycle camping. |

I've procrastinated bad. I need to go shopping for a bag and tent that I can somehow strap to the back of my Lightning. I happen to have a Blackhawk back pack for everything else, it even has straps so I can bind the sleeping bag to the bottom. That should allow the weight to rest more on the seat than on my back. But the Blackhawk has belt and sternum straps so it's quite comfortable even with a full load. This is my first motorcycle camping trip and I'm completely winging it. I'm just asking for trouble. |

Buellerandy- Kaneohe? Man, I spent 9 years on that base. Not a bad place to be, except for everything rusting to pieces. Our house on Pond Rd had the most amazing view. Winter swells, whales and dolphins...All just a step outside on the lanai. threadjacker out...back to the badness.... (Message edited by TORQUEMONSTER on March 15, 2008) |

Not_Purple, The Walmart here just got a shipment of 0 degree mummy sleeping bags for a mear $35. It comes in a compression sack. It's not real small, but it's manageable, easily bungied to a back seat. Tent's a little more tricky. I found mine at Sports Authority. They had a great variety of compact tents, from 1 to 4 person. I got the 2 person. |

I'm looking at this It's a one person Coleman with a 6x16" packing size and only 3.5lbs. It looks like the most compact tent I can find for under $100. I'm going to measure my pack when I get home but I'm pretty sure I can fit it in there and still have room for my extra clothes and gear. I'm expecting to be in my leathers most of the weekend so I'll just pack thermals and t's and maybe a pair of pants for just hanging out. |

Want to leave on about the 25th/no later than 26th, and head south on the river route [Miss.]till it gets a bit warmer then make my way east. Hope to make it, sounds like a good time !!! |

Campfires are allowed, assuming no county fire restrictions? Several tractor trailer wheels are scattered around the campsite for fires. If I remember right, a wheelbarrow load is $8. |

they'll even sell you the fire wood. last year was my first time and i stayed in dahlonega at a motel. not making that mistake this year. i'd rather be where the fun is. plus it gets pretty creepy on those roads at night. by the looks of it, there's gonna be over a hundred people there throughout the weekend. |

I'm guessing there will be campfire groups? I don't see a point in me having a campfire just for my little 'ole lonesome. First round of wood is on me! |

If anyone is interested I'm bring the only tent I got, its 17'x13' 6 feet tall in the center, rather large, I'll just take up a third of it, there is a center room and then two partitioned rooms to the side. I'll feel like a dork if its just me in one large ass tent. So I'll let anyone use the other side of it. I plan on coming in friday evening ish? from SC. |

+1. there are a lot of BWB'rs that were in the storm track yesterday - M/M Glitch, Kristi and Carlos, and Oldog, just to name a few. the National Emergency Broadcast System actually broke into the middle of a song on a North Carolina rock station i was listening to and warned of tornado conditions. so....everybody ok down there? edit: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/080315_rpts.html (Message edited by jerry_haughton on March 16, 2008) |

Hey, y'all. Yesterday was rough to say the least. No one harmed and nothing (of ours) harmed. Cody did have Odessy of the Mind competition, it was supposed to be a six hour thing. With all the tornadoes in the area, we had to stop, get everyone to the gym to let it pass. Start up again, only to repeat the prossess many times. The six hour event turned into a 14 hour event. At the end of the day, we had everything from thunderstorms, tornadoes, baseball sized hail, and a 1st ribbon for Codt and his team. Let's hope the state competition is a little less eventful. I'm headed up now to do a loop or two. March Badness is next week! |

Growing up in Cincinnati I have gone through my fair share of Tornado threats. Glad to say I have only been in one building (and that was here in NC) that was hit by a tornado. Luckily it was only an F0 to F1 tornado and the building though damaged, held. I have to say it is interesting looking at a tornado coming across a field toward you, then take cover in a warehouse to see the 100,000 sqft steel roof waving like the ocean. The worst day was in April 1974 where tornadoes leveled many towns with the worst being Xenia Ohio about 35 mile north east of my parent's house. That day we had baseball size hail that damaged my dad's car. Stupid dog we had tried to catch them. The most ere thing I remember that day was as the storm front passed, everything turned orange. It's like looking through colored glasses. At the time (I was only 8yo), I did not understand that it looked orange outside because of the amount of dirt up in the atmosphere. That storm is still the worst in US history with some 130 tornadoes spawned over several states. I am glad to say last night was fine. Modern conveniences like live on-line radar is a great way to track storm threats. I had both the local TV station radar and the NWS radar going last night. All the bad stuff passed to the south of us. As for Badness weather we are getting close enough for 10-day weather forecasts. So far the day before we head out it calls for partly cloudy with highs in the mid-sixties and lows in the mid-forties. Excellent riding weather I think. |

"I'm guessing there will be campfire groups?" There's going to have to be. I think GT only wants fires in designated areas (hence the truck wheels). There's plenty of them around though. Half the fun of the weekend is visiting everyone's campfire. The 3%'ers usually have a big tent set up and a bonfire going, and it's a good place to start the meet and greet. The first time I went to a March Badness, I just walked up, introduced myself, and I was 'in'. There are usually a gaggle of kids roaming around (good kids), so be considerate and confidential if the way you like to relax isn't G-rated. (Message edited by djkaplan on March 17, 2008) |

Not_purple: Take a look at www.hennessyhammocks.com Talked with a backpacking buddy of mine and it came highly recommended. A space blanket and a layer of fleece under your bag will keep you warm as well. Best part - it packs up about the size of a football. Got mine for $109 online. Get the snakeskins if you go this route. If you really want something free-standing like a tent, I would take a look at the Eureka Backcountry 1. It packs a little smaller than the Coleman bivy you posted, and it's an actual tent - not a bivy. You'll be able to sit up and change and whatnot. It's over $100, but not by much. I think I was finding them for $120-ish online. (Message edited by xl1200r on March 16, 2008) |

Bear #1 - What's that you got there? Bear #2 - Something new. It's food already wrapped up to go. No chasing, no messiness involved, just chomp and go. There's a whole bunch of them just over there... oh wait... those pesky cats are there now. |
