I will be attempting my first TPS reset. I have the directions, but wondering if there are any tips and/or tricks from the people who have done a number of these. I am using the VDSTS from American Sportbike. Thanks |

be sure it is at full running temp. (like 340 degrees F? I think) be sure that the throttle body, air cleaner and throttle cables are all operating as should while your fooling around with the bike. I.E. no dirt/leaves in the airbox/butterfly, throttle cables are lubed and opening fully and returning accuratley. lemme know how that VDSTS stuff works, I am looking at purchasing it. Its also a good time to check your static timing and reset your AFV, I think that what it has in the manual. |

Thanks, I will give back a full report. So far the only trouble I had was trying to get it communicating with my laptop. They don't tell you in the quick start guide, to make sure the kill switch is not engaged Hey do you know if ECMspy works with the cable and if there is any benefit to using one vs the other? |

I have heard that ECMspy will work with the directlink cable, dunno about the VDSTS cable. One benney of ecmspy is cost... it is FREE. If you need to build a cable to connect the laptop/pc to your bike, it runs about $30 for the parts. Other than that, ecmspy can do everything that VDSTS can do. Oh, and did I mention that ecmspy is free? (Message edited by ratyson on March 24, 2008) |

VDSTS cable will not work with ECM Spy. Its easy enough to build though. Just buy the recommended cable and plug solder or crimp the three wires and you are done. Bonuses of ECM Spy is that you can also check timing and pretty much tune anything you want (if you know what you are doing. TPS reset and AFV resets are simpler and quicker as well. |

Yeah, yeah...the kill switch thingy! Has that bit everyone ? I don't think you need the engine warm for the TPS reset, just the engine idle speed adjustment. Can't remember for sure..just follow the directions. And enjoy playing with all the other stuff you can monitor. I like the 'gauge' layout personally... |

Hogs, all the info and links to build your own cable can be found here: http://www.ecmspy.com/steckermontage.shtml It only takes about 5 minutes to put it together. Cost is around $40 with shipping. Parts take about 3-4 days to arrive. |
