Got the trapp on today 15 disc on with closed cap end, and now it pops when giving throttle off of idle sometimes. I think it may be lean now, so is the stock carb adjustable or do you have to replace the jets, Im looking in the manual and it shows disassembly and assembly but no notation of turns on jets, like 1 1/2 turns out on slow jet etc. Is it worth trying to richin it up? What I mean is will there be any gain to a more free breathing system or is it just louder with a possible power loss. THanks |

There is an idle mixture screw, but you have to have the carb off and upside down and remove the epa plug first to access it. This plug can be removed by drilling thru it and gently pulling it out. but the mixture screw sits about a 1/4" below the plug. If your spinning bit hits it, it will ram it down into the carb body. Be very careful. After that you can actually adjust the idle mixture while the bike is running if you have the correct screwdriver |

That's a good link that explains what needs to be done. Once you have opened up the exhaust (muffler) and the air filter, more air can be pumped through the engine than the carb jets were set up for causing it to run lean. I wouldn't drill the slide unless you aren't satisfied with throttle response after you have made the jetting and idle mix changes. my $0.02, spend it wisely! |

All right finally got around to it tonight. IM going to drill out plug can anyone tell me where the factory setting should be for this screw. Now that the carbs off the bike should adjusting this screw out be enough to compensate for the exhaust and air filter or will I need or would it be beneficial to change any jets again this is a stock M2 only mods are supertrapp and race carbonfiber air filter. Thanks Dan |

Ahh ha! its all ready drilled out....it was filled with silicone. When the bike was purchased the original owner had a V&H pipe and the race filter put on before he drove it off so they must have adjusted it then I guess Ill verify its 2 1/2 turns out and run some fresh gas before going any richer, should I refill when done, I mean will it adjust on its own if I dont put the silicone ack in. The silicon is either to give mental assurance, ( that the screw won't vibrate away ) or fool a casual inspection. Either way, it's not a terrible idea, the screw could back out & be lost. I didn't bother plugging mine after I pulled the Al plug. YMMV |

Thanks, I checked the position and it was about 2 5/8 turns I reset it at 2 1/2, drained the gas and filled up with fresh stuff and rode, no more poping So im not sure if it was 5-6 month old stale gas or what, but it was only 40 today so I have to see how it runs once we get into summer temps. Ill pull the plugs to make sure theres no lean condition. |

The actual # of turns depends on so many variables, there is no predetermined # of turns in or out for a given set up. It's just an approximation for the reassemblers and factory assemblers. I've never filled the hole in any of the the thousands of plugs I've pulled, and never had a screw fall out, or even lose adjustment (The screw could loosen enough to fall out and actually do so but still be retained by the aluminum plug, but it's never happened that I've heard of). That plug is there for one reason only: to keep you out. |
