Hey all, I am looking to add an accessory line to my Lightning. I plan on running my Buell heated grips, Zumo GPS, Siebel Air horn, and a few other farkels. I plan on running wire from the battery, putting in a 15 amp fuse, and running the line into the front fairing where everything will connect into. The main thing I can’t figure out is how to get it so it is only powered on when the key is on, like on the Ulysses accessory line. My concern is leaving something on, forgetting about it then next morning I got a dead battery. I was thinking of just making a master switch that I will get in the habit of turning off, but I want to see all my other options. Oh yea, I bought my bike with the low beam already rigged onto the line for that European light. I was thinking of just running everything off that line, but I don’t want to risk overloading it. |

You need to use a relay. If you are unfamiliar with how a relay works, its an electronic switch. So basically you run that new power wire up to the fairing and then have it go into the switched side of the relay. The Output of the relay would then go to all your accessories. On the coil side of the relay (the side that activates the switching) one side will go to ground while the other side goes to a key On source. You can probably just tap right into that Europe running light wire. The relay uses very little amperage. Also make sure to fuse that new wire as close to the battery as possible, because it will be live up to the relay. Finish it off with solder and Heat Shirk and you got yourself a nasty set up Have fun. |
