This may be a stupid question but I changed the trans fluid today and I put 1 qt in and it didn't fill it up to where I think the diagram shows. Should I add more, the fluid was pretty cold when I but it in. Or does it just take a little more then a qt? | ||

That's odd. Because of residual oil left in the primary, I usually short the quart 3 or 4 ounces to get it to the proper level. You must be draining it a lot better than I am. | ||

My 2003 XB9R has always been perfect with 28oz added to it after being drained. 1qt would actually overfill it. When I drain the transmission, the bike is vertical and the rear end is slightly elevated, for what it's worth. | ||

Do you measure on a flat surface, at sea level, at the stroke of midnight on a non leap year? Because if you don't if may be over filled!  I've been dumping one full quart in all my HD's and Buells for ever and all has been fine. You guys worry too much. | ||

Fran, Thats a great pic. That is exactly where it looks to be. Why don't they have that pic in any of the books its a hell of a lot easier to make out. | ||

I picked the pic from the Buell web site. I'm pretty sure there is a similar, if not the same pic in the manual. | ||

That is a Service Manual image. If the bike is on the sidestand, it will not drain completely, and if it's elevated front to rear, it won't drain completely. One quart has always been perfect for me. | ||

When I drain mine I put a 2x4 under the kick stand. This makes my Scg almost perfectly vertical. It's tilted just a hair, enough so that she doesn't fall over. This seems to get 99.9 % of the oil out because it takes me exactly 1 quart to get back to the proper level when refilling. | ||

The same picture should be in your owners manual...it is in my tuber manuals and I saw it in an 08 Uly manual the other day at work while I was looking something up. Look towards the back under regular maintenance  | ||

I have the 03 XB9 service manual and the only pic I see in the maintenance section is of the outside crankcase with a dotted line showing the what appears to be the fill line. It makes it look like it needs to be filled to the bottom of the fill cover. I do have a rear bike stand that puts the bike straight up with out rising it much at all. | ||

Tip:: squirt the oil in the primary chain adj. cover...one less screw and you don't have to as careful with it running the out clutch cover. AND you can feel the primary chain for tension. | ||
