I've been thinking of modifying my airbox like an 05+? airbox, that has that little metal mesh around the front of the airbox cover and the holes in the airbox itself then blocking off the snorkel port so more air can flow to the back cylinder so the fan won't be on constantly while I'm riding like it was today.

Now, my XB is an bone stock 03 with the exception of the chain conversion.

My question is, could I do this without the race ecu, After Market exhaust, and the K&N and not have any negative effects, like the bike running super lean or something.

My apologies if this has been answered a half a million times. I did a search but with very little luck

Thanks
Shim.

You should be fine, the ECM can adapt to that amount of extra airflow, just ride at 3500-4000 rpm for 15 minutes at least at constant throttle to let the ECM adjust to the new setup. Of course, adding the pipe and the ECM will make your ride that much more fun....

After the bike is warm it requires very little time, no more than a few minutes, for the AFV to adjust.

I believe it's been done before. I remember seeing where someone blocked off the opening with a heat barrier that cover the entire base.
