You got to remember that’s it’s not just an antenna. If it was an antenna, then there would be a ton of aftermarket ones that you could use. But the GMX30 is also the brains for the XM. It’s the antenna, receiver, processor, etc. The Zumo does nothing but plays the XM. This makes the Zumo more cost effective because instead of everyone paying $200 more for the Zumo, only those that want the XM abilities will need to shell out for it. |

true Froggy I have a 2gb sdflash card in my zumo for mp3s the longest trip I've done on my bolt so far is 100 miles but plan to longer trips and the idea of listening to the same songs over and over again doesnt appeal to me lol |

+27 on the Zumo and Garmin.
A couple recommendations...invest a few bucks in a screen protector for your Zumo, my screen started to get scratched from my gloves...and don't clean the LCD with a Windex type cleaner, the UV protective layer will come off. Don't ask me how I know...let's just say it is a good thing that Garmin goes above and beyond to satisfy their customers (even the stupid ones).

Not that I know of other than to never exceed that speed. But it only takes a few seconds to reset that. Touch Page, then the blue dot by the speed, then Yes to reset. Resetting all the data fields can be done in about the same time.
Do you want that for when/if you get pulled over for speeding? Good luck with that, most cops will have better data sources available to bargain with.
Don't forget, if you have the track log on, there will be up to 2,000 track points in that. Those don't include the speed but it can be seen if you download the track and review the track properties in MapSource or any of a number of GPS utilities.

I find the screen brightness on the 2610 is just okaymost of the time. I keep the vertical (brightness) slider full up and the horizontal (contrast) in the middle for daytime use. I also have one of those Velcro attached Touratech SunShades and that helps at some angles.
But when the sun is shining directly on the display, it will not be visible. If you block the direct sun with your hand it can be seen easily though.
I don't use the audio inputs from my 2610 on the bike, I rely on visual glances and my masterful sense of situational awareness. :>)

Garmin 376c with NAXRAD(?) weather radar and xm radio. Has allowed me on numerous occasions to skirt storm cells. Also water resitant, good for attaching stuff for fishing (eg depth sounder, etc), like the xm radio for long cross country trips and also some very boring commuter trips.I had originaly had got it for my 01 GoldWing and just transfered to my Uly. |

I use the Garmin Nuvi 250W. It works great. But I have to hide it in the rain as it isn't waterproof. I use it in my car as well.  |

I know, just got the Zumo last week, But the RAM mounts that came with it do not allow for that middle of the bar attachment. Just curious to what parts (if RAM) are needed for that placement that Maximum has.
Also if he can put gas in the bike with that placement??? |

Upon further study of Maximum,s setup, looks like the pro-taper bars don't have a cross bar?? That would explain the mount better! |

The basic part of the zumo that is called the "mount" in the zumo installation guide is the thing that the zumo snaps into. That is a Garmin part and is needed to use the zumo in any mounting. It has to be used because it has the 12V to 5V power conversion, the connectors for the GXM-30 XM receiver, the USB connector, and the audio jacks.
The round piece with the 1" ball on it that attaches to the back of the zumo "mount" is the first of the RAM Mount pieces. From that point on back, you can use any of the RAM Mount components that will suit your mounting situation.
Garmin also supplies a RAM double socket arm and a base (with the other 1" ball) that can clamp to a handle bar or cross bar or that can be attached to the throttle or clutch lever housings.
Beyond that, RAM sells a number of other bits and of pieces that will provide second 1" ball for a mount. There are male and female threaded mounts for example in both Imperial and Metric pitches. You can browse the Ram catalogs and let your imagination and needs work out the details.
The Ram Universal Catalog explains their systems and shows many of the components.

Honu: You are correct that my current setup is on ProTapers. I am using Precision Engineerings Slim Line 1-1/8" bar adapter with built in RAM mount 1/4"-20 threads.
It works well for my bar setup, although I would really like to build a custom mounting bracket in order to get the Zumo a little lower. I got a vision for what I want...just no skills (or tools) to work with steel!
This was my setup with the stock bar...
I really like the GPS in the center of my vision...and believe it or not...all it took to mount the Zumo on my stock crossbar was a couple of these...

Thanks for the info, thats how I would like to mount my Zumo to the stock bars.
Was it hard to pump gasoline when it was mounted to the stock bars in the middle??? |

Honu: No problem at all pumping gas. I imagine if I lived in one of those states that those funky "environmental" fuel nozzle covers, it might get in the way. But even then you can tighten the pole clamps just enough to keep the GPS from moving on its own, but not so much that you can't rotate it up with a little hand pressure. |

I just picked up a Garmin Street Pilot 2610 off eBay. I have the motorcycle mounting kit on its way, as well as the Ram Mount. Any tips or tricks for getting this GPS unit up and running? I'm a GPS, as well as Uly newbie, so any info would be greatly appreciated.
