Well, after watching my 2008 Ulysses sit in my garage for 2 months I finally took it out today. Now I am pretty sure something is wrong as it has no performance. Up any hill it bogs and won't accelerate, and I can't accelerate as fast as the hondas in front of me. It is running on both cylinders and has 70 miles on it. I am aware of the 4k RPM limit for the first 500 miles and am obeying it, but still seems like something is wrong. My 03 KLR that I had before this would easily outrun the Buell, and I know that shouldn't be the case. I am wondering if there is anything I can do short of having the dealer come get it to fix the acceleration. The other symptom is that the bike dies as soon as I let off the throttle, no matter how long I have been riding it. Please help. | ||

It's under warranty -> don't mess with it. That's what the warranty is for. | ||

It will be in for warranty, trying to see if anything simple that I can do to fix it first. I read somewhere on here about a manual TPS reset but it didn't do anything. (key on, 3 full throttle iterations pausing 1 second at each end then key off) Finally warm enough here to ride and I want to get as much in as possible without interruption (ie bike gone for warranty work). | ||

I'd just call HoH and have them figure it out. I can't remember the name of the Buell tech there, but he seems to be pretty knowledgeable with the bikes. Simple and easy steps could include swapping out the gas for fresh (siphon out as much as you can, and fill it fresh) or swapping plugs (which is a little more involved). There is also an idle adjustment that is pretty easy (and in your manual). But I would make sure you can put it back where it started, as I think something else is going on. The manual tps was a good thought as well... sure is nice to have that built in on the 08's... I have an 05, can somebody verify that is the right procedure? | ||

The TPS reset procedure you have is correct. My bet/guess would be the spark plugs - fouled. I'm having a huge amount of trouble with fouled plugs on 08 Uly. Getting new (remus) headers and can to get rid of both the skinny pipes the European bikes now have as well as the catalytic converter - which will hopefully help. The solution is most likely in the ECM, but I have to wait until ECMSpy v2 comes out for the 2008's.... (Message edited by bigkuri on March 11, 2008) | ||

Bikes, Has your Uly been started, at the dealer and since you have had it, and not run to complete warm up? It seems that with these engines, if it is fired up more than twice, and revved a few times, without reaching full operating temperatures, the plugs will end up fouled. You may have a bike that has been started several times by the sales folks, unknowingly killing the plugs. I would guess that is your problem, it has shown up many times, especially during winter time where riding cannot happen for long periods of time. | ||

If you're running on 2 cylinders, you should try the plug clearing procedure. I think it's in the owners manual, and I know it's on badweb somewhere...the bike has the ability to clean a limited amount of debris off the plugs without starting the engine. I also vote for fouled (at least partially) plugs. These bikes are super-sensitive to the "don't start me if you aren't going to ride me for at least 30 minutes" rule. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no idle speed adjust on the '08s? ECM is supposed to handle that I thought, no more screw under the scoop. | ||

It was delivered to me fouled up. But the full throttle and turn key on and hold for 4 seconds fires the plugs to clean them. It got it running after a bit of that. Must have gotten it running just good enough to get to a dealer to have the plugs replaced. I am also assuming plugs, just hoping that there is the miracle cure out there for me (like when it wouldn't start due to fouled plugs). | ||
