Don't know about the rest of you XBers, but I haven't been able to find a secure place to store my helmet at bike events. I usually just hang it from the blinker. I finally nutted up and asked a guy with a GSR how the hell his is hang from under the "bitch pad". There were hook molded into the plastic. Mine doesn't have this. I got home today and took some sturdy threaded hooks and installed them just about a 1/4 of the way from the back side of the pad into the hard plastic. Works like a champ. I wouldn't recommend doing 90 mph for I haven't tested this and don't plan on it. Helmets are expensive. But for simply storage it's great. | ||

Yea, most of metric sportbikes have a hook or latch somewhere under their tail. They sometimes put it on the passenger footpeg and latch it to that hook for secure 150 mph + runs on the expressway. never understood that cause your head isnt in the helmet down there, but its great for lockin it up on the bike at events or parking cause some have intergrated a lock and key hole. | ||

I just take the d ring on the helmet strap and stick it over the seat latch post wile the seat is of then put it back on | ||

Believe it or not, the little cable thingy that came with our bikes is supposed to secure our helmets when they're not on our head. Thankfully Badwebers are as innovative as our bikes. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/285648.html There's some more in the search section | ||

i drilled and tapped a hole in the square tubing of the tail, and it holds the d-rings securely under the passenger seat. | ||

I have a small cable lock, sold for helmets, that I run through the D ring and under the bars at the center clamp on my S. I just run a small plastic covered chain I bought at Wal-Mart through the shield opening on my helmet. I then run the chain around my handlebar inside my brake and throttle lines. So, to get the helmet off they have to cut the chain or the brake and throttle lines. Doable, but a lot of trouble. So far so good. I have thought about those helmet locks that go on the license plate bracket. Twisted Throttle has them too. | ||

I have thought about those helmet locks that go on the license plate bracket. it's probably the most funtcional thing i've bought for my bike, just don't really like the look that much. i've got a great idea on how to make it more stealth. stay tuned!  | ||

Well on my original post I stated that I used the threaded hooks under the passenger pad. After seeing Nillaice's post on taping the square framing inside the pocket there it made more sense to do that. Rather than having to hold the helmet while putting the pad back on with my first idea, I ran with Nill's and it works much better. These hooks are pretty sturdy and are extremely cheap at any hardware store. Try it. | ||

Get a small padlock (Hardware store)in which the diameter of the circular locking arm will fit thru one of the top holes in the passenger foot peg guard. Lock the helmets "d" ring to the passenger foot peg guard. I pull the foot peg itself out and place the helmet over it and rest the helmet there. I use the footpeg on the opposite side of the kickstand. Make sure the helmet isn't touching anything hot. When not in use, I leave this small padlock in my Buell rear tail bag, could fit under the rear seat too....works for me | ||

Oh yea...obviously not the thing to do when riding the bike, just for when you need to secure the helmet while parked.... | ||

I used that license plate bracket thingy on my Cyclone, and that was a BIG mistake. The tail section on the Cyclone was really unsupported by anything other than fibreglass, the steel frame underneath ended almost a foot and a half forward from where the rear fender hung. The extra weight of the license plate bracket and locks was enough to crack my tail section. The first was replaced under warranty, but the second time it started to crack I was outside of the warranty period. That's when I realized what was really going on. I had to scrap the bracket, and I was able to use some nylon cloth and epoxy to reinforce and repair the cracking tail section before it went too far. Ever since then, I've been leery about those brackets. I know the Lightning tailpiece is a pretty substantial piece of metal, but I'm gun shy... | ||

thanks for the dap, Firebolt32. my only tip is to tap the threads kindly, and gently as it is aluminum, and use some blue threadlock on the left side bolt if you do both. i figure the vibrations from the engine's rotation loosen that one, but will tighten the right side | ||

I have one of those Helmet Guardians on my license plate. It looks okay. It kinda blends in with the Ventura rack I have. It works very well. There was a BadWeBer here who did a cool mod. He took the locks off the Helmet Guardian bracket and installed them onto the rear reflector brackets. It looked very cool. |
