Has anyone used these items? Coil, Wires and/or Spark Plugs? Any comments good/bad? Just wondering what to expect. I ordered all 3 and should be getting them this week. |

Past testing has shown a high "snake oil" factor... |

No but back to back dyno runs were done with the wires. Virtually no difference. It's all in the KV somewhere. The biggest problem is verifiable, consistant results. Take a bike with 15,000 original miles. Do a set of dyno pulls. Put in a set of XYZ wires, plugs and coil. Now do another set of dyno runs. $10 says you get a tiny bit more power (probably less than 3 HP). Another $10 bucks says if you replace all the stock stuff except the plugs, just put in a set of stock plugs you will get the same results within a HP or so. Keep in mind that the results are GREATLY influenced by the dyno operator. Any manufacturer can claim results and "prove it" with dyno charts. But, can the results be duplicated by a disinterested third party with no dog in the fight? Jim, I'm really not trying to rain on your parade. I just hate seeing questionable products with grand claims being foisted on folks. We all work way too hard for our paychecks to throw some of it away on things that are not what they seem. After you get your stuff installed, please let us know what you think. It would be neat if you could do a before and after dyno run but that is really difficult (and $$) for most folks. Brad |

You know I looked at a lot of these dyno charts and have yet to see one where the wires were the only thing changed. If anybody can find one, I'd appreciate a link to it. |

There isn't a reason why a bigger or more powerful spark will make these engines run any better than what the stock system puts out. Once the mixture 'lights off', it's on its way... it doesn't take a huge spark to do that. Now if you start messing around with compression ratios, radical cams, turbocharging, etc., you create a different scenario for the combustion process. In those cases, a fatter spark can be of benefit, but there has to be a need for it first. I wouldn't call these products 'snake oil'... I'd call them unnecessary for a stock (or lightly modified) bike (but I bet they look cool). |
