I have a few questions for the more experienced riders. I took delivery of my 2008 XB12X in November 07 and have only been able to take it out only a few times because of either work or bad weather, but so far have had no real trouble. Since I'm a very novice rider, I've had to be extra causious while riding but found the bike easy to ride once I've learned how to handle the bike. Has anyone else found this to be the same with them? Also would like to know if this bike can ever be taken to the race track or am I chained to streets and trails that are not too crazy. Once I get 2-3k miles on it might use some stuff from Frank Parts! or Trojan-Horse to make it more MX style looking bike....anyone else doing this?

This might seem like a dumb question, but from what videos of this bike I've seen, do you not lean as far in cornering as with the other XB bikes. Is it easier to do serious cornering at race tracks on this bike then other of similar class? Is it because of the neutral riding position?

Probably just the riding style of the individual.
Actually, [per given speed] you would have to lean the Uly over more than the other XB's due to the Uly's higher center of gravity. While it is a great handling bike for its design intent, it won't be as fast in the corners as a typical sport bike on the track. Rider being equal that is.

They Uly is a very tall bike, and that makes it prone to low speed drops. Beyond that, it is not a difficult bike to ride.

Sure, I've had mine on a track. If you're doing doing track days in the novice class, they don't allow you to pass except on the strait sections. It very much is not a race, it's a place to learn how to corner your bike and enjoy pushing your own limits in a safe environment. You can pretty much take almost any bike out there. I believe they don't allow cruisers, since they corner so poorly. But you don't have to have a race bike to ride on a track.

So how far do you need to be leaned over to get a peg down? I think there is something wrong with mine as the right side has been down at least 3 times. This bike can lean!!!

I learned ALOT from those photos.

Msparks, that is right about max before you scrape the peg, I lost the feelers on both sides from that weekend.

I only scrape the pegs when the suspension compresses. I've tapped both sides a few times.

There was no lack of cornering skill. You suffered from lack of keeping your shock mount from exploding and jamming a shock rod through your rear wheel and slinging your butt to the street skill.

I don't think MSF teaches that skill. : D
