I dont understand why I see such a difference in prices, I think another guy in seattle is paying 450ish/yr on a 9s

another friend with an S1 was paying 225/yr but got his renewal papers and it went to over 700/yr, no tickets/claims/etc. (also through Harley ins.)

Misato,
I was paying $225/year through Harley.
My renewal was $1437/year.
I called and asked why and they said that they had stopped using Universal Underwriters and that the new company (I forget which one) was my only choice.
I called progressive and for that same $225, actually $230/year I get modest coverage.

I am 33, no points, no claims, South East PA.

With a 700% increase in the rate I think I'd be writing a letter to your state's insurance commission.

That is typical tactic an insurer will pull if they are trying to get out of that coverage sector in your state.

About $400/yr for the XB9r but I have 2 bikes, a car and my house insured with Farmers Ins. 38, no tickets.

Paroyboy,
Progressive was great for me.
None of the other big names even came close.
Also, Nationwide, who I have my auto, home and life ins. with and have for the last 10 years, wanted nothing to do with quoting me on cycle insurance. When I finally pressed the issue my agent gave me a price $4000+/year and then told me "I'm sure you can get it cheaper somewhere else".
Nice! It makes me happy to give them money every month. (NOT)

One last thing the policy through Progressive is really Bare Bones Coverage for the $230/year. I don't have the numbers here at work with me but I remember thinking if I go down it would probably be better for my family if I don't get back up.

If a company or an agent who carries your multi-vehicle policy tells you something like that, start shopping around for a whole new package. The life insurance may have to stick with them, but the rest can be shopped for a better overall rate. There are plenty of companies who will be glad to give you total coverage in many cases, and often for less. Freedom includes saying no. Freedom of speech somewhat includes saying to them to stuff it where the sun don't usually shine, course with attitudes like some of the above agents seem to have I'd say the sun is shining brightly on their arse as they shove it in your face.

Gee, where'd all that come from. ;) Sometimes good hands aren't so good, eh?

I'm paying $454 per year through Harley with Dairyland on my Firebolt. I am insuring two bikes, am over 60, married, own my own home. Progressive wanted $600 more for less coverage on the Buell. I made the switch in an instant. But, Dairyland includes a clause where you pay a penalty if canceling before the expiration date.

Any one else having trouble with the insurance company and bike model. Allstate classifies my XB9S as a 9R. They don't even show the 9S as a 2003 model. They show the X1 Lighting as a 2003 model though. Only $560 a year so no major complaints, just mild annoyance.

'03 XB9R - $1540
'01 P3 - $800

Through State Farm, with the lowest allowable coverage and highest deductible (and they're the cheapest I can find!). I'll be dropping the Blast to bare-bones minimum through Progressive, soon, at $159 a year. Insurance is nothing more than legalized age discrimination, and you're guilty until proven innocent by being on probation for 7-10 years. Isn't America wonderful?

Harley's insurance quoted me, a forty-six year old toad, $710 a year for a 2004 XB12S.

No tickets. No accidents. Twenty-eight years riding experience, and two MSF courses, with the most recent one being in 2001.

Even though I reside in Southern California, that doth seem a mite steep to the Toad.
