if you use a 98 or older tank it will be fine, if you use a 99 or newer tank, it will need to be modified as some have done. |

someone posted here awhile back, some way to remove the pump and install a regular petcock IIRC. shouldn't be hard to find a "carb" tank. i have an extra one that i bought on ebay, but the paint was rougher than i thought on the pics, then i found another one that was in excellent shape, so i have a scraped up one and a bad paint one. |

the reason that im curious, is because i just bought a pristine M-2... the previous owner didnt like the grey color, so he had it painted black... it really looks good... however, i want to put S-3 body panels on it... if i can find a set with a tank that will fit, i wont have to hack this fine paint job...then i can sell the M-2 stuff to recoop some of the cash the S-3 plastic set me back, if that makes sense... |

I have a 99 S3 that i switched to a carb. I just found in the drag specialties fat book that they make a kit for the fuel injected harleys to remove the electric pump install a petcock and also comes with a plug for the fuel pump hole. I just ordered one so i'll find out soon if it all works. Or like Lee said find a 97 or 98 tank. I don't think that is going to be easy, I've been looking for over a year. |

Werewulf... What S3 parts do you need? I've been thinking about cleaning out the garage. I have a full set of black S3 body parts (fairing, tank & tail). They're in good shape but not perfect. Probably an 8 out of 10. I'm not sure if I have the gauge console. For sure don't have the fairing mount (aka spider). There are probably other parts (mirrors?) that are in various boxes. You can use a FI tank with just some mods to the pump assembly housing and a Pingel Petcock. Joe |

could someone please tell me what these mods to the FI tank look like? it looks to me like the FI tank has the petcock further toward the front of the bike... it seems that if it was converted to a gravity feed, the entire volume wouldnt be available to the carb... |

Dave I removed the pump, regulator and filter assembly. Cut the pump assembly foundation to allow for clearance for the petcock. Left the the low fuel sensor in place, hoping to keep the low fuel light as well as the petcock reserve functions. The petcock will be at the same level maybe lower than the fuel pump pickup was at so I expect the same fuel capacity as the FI. I keep the foundation to plug the second hole in the tank, for the wires. Joe |
