GrandStand Designs offers a wide array of thermal barrier coatings for exhaust pipes. We keep several different colors in stock including the popular "cermachrome." It offers a polished silver or "chrome-like" appearance with 2000 deg F protection. Call or email me for more info. Plus GSD is a BadWeb sponsor and gives members discounts on products and services.

Thanks, Pete

Red scotch brite pads with the grain of the pipe. Think I got them at Home Depot

I go for the raw beauty of stainless steel by using 600 grit wet/dry to get the blueness out, then I go to 1500 and finally 2500.

Nice looking pipes Matt!

I have found that the key thing is to get the tool marks out of the pipes and then go finer and finer like Matt says.

Being a bit on the lazy side, I found that fine 3M wheels, the kind that have alternating paper and scotchbrite pads, do a great job of getting the tool marks out.

Then I finish hand sanding with the finer grits.

The really secret to pipes that will make you the envy of the entire village, is to finish them off with a product called Luster Lace. This is an nylon ribbon impregnated with a very fine abrasive that you wrap around the pipe and then pull back and forth till them pipes shine like chrome.

Once they are really smooth, you don't have to repolish them, you just let them turn a wonderful gold color to match your Ohlins forks and DID racing chain.
