I guess I went against conventional wisdom. I have a 30 inch inseam and bought a 2006 CityX. Once I got used to it I love it. The seat is cushy, the pegs fit me, and now i'm used to the higher stance. I suppose it really is all in what you get used to.

I guess I went against conventional wisdom...

If any of us went along with conventional wisdom, we wouldn't be riding Buells.

Believer,

When I purchased my XB12Scg someone had switched the seat with a stock Lightning seat. Since the seats are interchangeable many people try changing the seat at the Buell dealer to get different feel/heights.

If you look at the bottom of the plastic seat pan there are model numbers molded in the seat. Mine had a small white dot beside the number for the seat.

I can not find the correct number for the Scg seat. I know Buellgater gave me the number about a year ago but I can not find.

hmm... yes i heard that there are more than one seat height, but i don't know if there is enough space between rear shock and bottom of the seat to make it lower. I asked at my dealer but he only said that is all numbered and that it's all original.

O, and i have a white dot under the seat to.

In lookup, the seat specifically for a 2006 Scg is M0076.3AE. Different than the other Lightnings, hope it helps : )

thank you ratbuell, i looked at my seat and it has the same number. Did you maby ever measured your height of seat? Because if it's lover than my, it has to be something strange with my bike!

p.s.: I saw that there is one number which should be for the lower seat... M0076.1AD LOW ... any idea?

M0076.1AD is the number for the XB9SL. Same basic height IIRC, different covering. I believe the SL seat is a smooth vinyl?

I took my SCG seat to a guy that the dealer recommended and he removed some of the original padding and added more, but softer foam (only about $75). And it only took him a couple of hours. Have ridden for many hours with no butt problems. Am only 5'3" with about a 28" inseam. Am on the balls of my feet but probably no matter what bike I had, that's where I'd be.

Believer,

Ratbuell is right on with the explanation of the seat numbers.

One thing I'm not sure is clear. The same plastic seat pan is used for all the XB9/XB12S variations. The SS uses a different seat pan. This is the reason there are several seat model numbers molded into the plastic seat pan. A white dot is usually painted beside the number for the seat after the foam padding and cover is applied.

The difference in the seats is the foam and cover.

I have a 30" inseam and with the XB12Scg seat on an XB12Scg I can just flat foot wearing a shoe with no heal like a tennis shoe. If I put on the standard Lighting XB12S seat I am on the front of my foot but not tip toes. The XB12Scg is 1.5" lower. Roughly 0.75" is in the suspension and 0.75" is in the seat.

Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the informations, because my dealer did't know anything when i asked him :S
So it looks like i'll have to satisfied whit 30" height : (
I just don't know why buell has wrong informations on their web page. Because one of the reason why i bought buell scg was the height of the seat to!
