So, I had my second crash ever just yesterday (first one was a week after I got my first bike in 1996). I'm kinda bummed that it happened at all, but I'm VERY thankful that I only have minor injuries and the bike has only minor damage. If anyone has any of the following parts, I need them for my 97 S1: Derby cover Handgrips Pulley guard Banke shifter (mine took the brunt of the impact) Clutch lever/left hand switchgear Adjustable brake lever Belt guard (not essential) Thanks for looking!

Sorry man. I know how ya feel. I layed my S1 down last year at about 90mph. Very scary. BadWeb members helped me get my bike back together so I'm here to return the favor. I have a derby cover thats yours. PM me your address and I'll get it out to ya asap. I also have the rear pegs off an M2. I dont know if they'll work ( I can check) but they're yours if your interested. |

Question... How'd ya mess up both sides of the bike? It flipped? |

Erik, Thanks a ton!! I need the derby cover, but the pegs are fine. Yes, I lowsided at about 50 mph (just a guess) and the bike and I slid off the side of the road into a rocky area. The rocks caused both of us to flip. The short of it is that the guy I was following blew the turn, then when he was slowing and correcting back to our lane I had to change my line. It was at the entry to a right-left 'chicane'-like turn, so this screwed me for the subsequent left hander. In hindsight, I should've followed further back and I didn't recognize his screwup until we were closing too fast. Thanks again - PM sent! -Kevin |

Wow. Your story is better then mine. I had just got back into my state from a 600 mile trip myself and a few friends did. We dropped the last of the guys home. A friend and myself we're leaving for our last hour ride home. I had a duffle bag netted to the rear fender. Nice wide open road. I stop at the stop sign, take off, yank a wheelie and start runnin through the gears. When all of a sudden I feel the back tire is locked up! I fish tailed about 150 feet before the bike decided it didn't want me on it anymore. Threw me over the bars landing on my back, right shoulder area. I surfed about 20-25 feet along the pavement before I hit a guard rail. Got up right away, checked if I was bleeding and went to go pick my bike up, when I felt my elbow hurting. I cut my shirt off and saw my elbow was the size of a softball. Pretty much shattered it and now have a 5'' titanium plate holding it all back together. FUN! |

Just for clarification....you need grips, not bars, right? (sorry...firewall prevents me from seeing the pics) If in fact you need BARS, I have dibs on some S1 bars that I will gladly give up since Im not in dire need of them. Let me know and Ill hook you up with the badwebber that has em. (Message edited by TORQUEMONSTER on January 31, 2008) |

Erik, Yikes! Did you figure out what happened to make your wheel lock up? That really sucks. I'm lucky that I didn't get hurt, as it could've been much worse. I've had my Aerostitch for 11 years, and I finally 'used' it to save my bacon. Travis, Yes, I only need the grips, not the bars. Thanks for the thought though! -Kevin |

The duffle bag came off the seeat and got lodged inbetween the tire and the swingarm. Good thing you posted again. I forgot about the derby cover. I'm going in the garage right now to box it up. |

Bummer. I've got a factory derby cover if you still need it. Banke sells all shifter parts individually, reasonable. I've found you can straighten the main arm w/a mallet, it's quality billet that can be re-formed. Also have the pulley guard/brace, belt guard, and a fiberglass rear fender if you need them. Factory parts tho, not CF. (Message edited by Hippyjoe on February 09, 2008) |
