as i had mentioned i old school i am polishing my swingarm, and i am removeing my frame to have it powdercoated. my question, should i unbolt the rear iso's and motor mounts on the frame and drop the engine/trans/swing arm out of my frame as one and the work on the swingarm? what have others done in the past? | ||

Blake, It's easier to keep the motor and swingarm assembly on the ground and lift the frame off. Use a couple of jack stands and a rod through the rear axel and a small sissor jack under the motor. Don't forget there are locating pins on the rear isolators that go into the frame. Removing the isolator bolts from the swingarm should let you lift the frame straight up. i have alot of pics but i dont know how to put them on my computer from my camera/memory card. i have a band new computer so i will have to try it soon i have a photobucket account so i should figure it out, i got my D&D yesterday, and my wheels go out 1-2-08. its going to look good. brad what do you think about getting together some time around my final assembly, it would be nice to have you there to make sure i dot forget anything. | ||

I having problems with my swing arm aligning up with the rear shock absorber. It is approx. 1 1/2 inches off for the shock and swing arm to align. | ||

Kenneth Welcome to Badweb. Would recommend you start a different thread for your problem. If this is a different shock then you may have gotten the wrong length shock. If it is the original shock/swing arm you will need to raise the rear of the bike until you can push the bolt through. Either pull it up with an engine hoist or chain fall or put a scissors jack between the wheel and the tail and raise it that way. I'm assuming you're misalignment is fore and aft not athwartships. I purchased an 1999 Lightning X1 with the rear end disassembled with lots of parts. This is first attempt in putting it back together and I'm not sure if I have the correct length shock and I have 2 front brackets one straight and one banana. I have the straight on on there now and it is not matching up with the swingarm. I think I have a 15 inch shock. Any suggestions? I will attach pictures tomorrow. Thanks for your help! |
