That would make it a little louder. By 'gutting' you mean remove all the packing stuff that's in there, right? I'm pretty sure that will make it louder. The undampened exhaust pulses will soon pound it to pieces. The joints will loosen and start getting stress cracks around the seams and rivets. I think you would be surprised at how loud it is when you are not on the bike. Have a friend do a full throttle drive by, I'm sure you will like the sound and tone.
