I wear an Arai Astral-X, every time I ride. DOT and Snell I am however considering the Scorpion Exo-1000 (if it fits properly) because of the built-in sun shield, as well as the good things I hear from everyone I know that has an Exo-700. The more expensive helmets are usually built to higher fit and finish standards with better aerodynamic shapes and vents that work better while at the same time not generating high levels of noise. There are always exceptions, but Shoei, Arai, Shark etc. have built well earned reputations with the riding community. |

diablo, i really thought about the scorpian also, but the one thing that changed my mind was that anything with additional moving parts tends to break more often. i've already heard that the flip down doesn't last that long and it will just keep on coming down on it's own. with that one up above, i don't have to change out the visor ever again. when it's dark out it lightens up and trying it out yesterday for the first time, i was looking directly at the sun and never had to bat an eyelid. |

Unfortunately, you can't buy a Snell 2010 rated helmet until probably 2011... Both of my modular helmets have Euro certification. They NEED them in order to be legally sold for street use in Europe (sorta like FMVSS 218 in the States). By the way, in a test I found online the cheaper Nolan 100e transmitted less force in a drop test than the more expensive Schuberth. Price isn't always an indication of performance. |

i was looking directly at the sun and never had to bat an eyelid. I like that visor, but my concern/question is how quickly does it lighten up when you go into the shade? Unfortunately, you can't buy a Snell 2010 rated helmet until probably 2011... I thought about that too, the article didn't say. My AGV has 5 seasons on it and the padding is shot - I have to get a new helmet this spring! I need Snell to drag race, but would consider either using the one I have at the track only or buying a cheap snell helmet for the track and getting something with either the current Euro spec or that new spec for Europe that Rocket says will happen in April of this year. Unless of course Snell is being futuristic with M2010 and they will be available this spring.... |

Ive got a hew-mungos cranium(XXXL)and its hard to find a good skidlid that fits. Any recommendations?? Same problem here. My head is 8.25", which is just out of the range of most manufacturer. HJC's 3XL fits me reasonably well. I'm wearing a CL-15 right now, which is cheap and effective, but not particularly quiet or comfortable. I'd like to try a modular in my size, but haven't seen anything larger than a 3XL. |

Arai Corsair for track.. Arai Corsair on the street.. After testing one at Pocono a few years ago, I was even more impressed with it after the way it handled the header I took into the drainage ditch. So, the fit, finish, venting, and protection all make it worth the expense to me.. so much so, I have two. |

everybodys head shape is different. You should go to a shop that has exactly what you are looking for and try it on. The buy there or on line, what every you are good with. I cannot stress the importance of trying you helmet on before you buy and make sure it fits and is comfortable. |

"I like that visor, but my concern/question is how quickly does it lighten up when you go into the shade?" when going into shaded area's i was surprised as to how little problem i had with clearing up. i guess i'll have to check to see how long it actually takes to go back to normal when i get home from work if it's still light outside. |

Arai Corsair & Nolan N100e Modular with the VPS (exterior sun visor). I wear the Nolan about 80% of the time, and for all commuting and hot weather. The modular is much easier to get on, and might appeal if you have a very large head. I think my neck would break well before the 2 metal latches on the chinbar would. The Arai is lighter, and a great helmet, but I just don't think it is 2X better than the Nolan, so it is not worth the money if on a budget. I am disappointed to say that the Arai is only slightly quieter than the Nolan modular. There is no scientific evidence I can find that Arai or Snell protect you any better. Since most racing orgs require Snell, there is no way to tell from racing, either. I used to require Snell to buy a helmet, but made an exception for the Nolan. I will not require Snell in the future, but will do my own research. I do not expect to spend the money on an Arai for my next lid, if I can get the same fit from a "normal" price helmet. The Nolan is not as comfortable for me as the Arai, but fits safely. |

I can't live without my Suomy extreme Roberts model. It fits perfect, I can barely tell its there because it's so light. The venting is great. |
